Hi everybody,

a somewhat exotic question, I guess: I installed Firewall iP to get rid of ads, tracking sites etc., and it works like a charm: Once I click "Global Deny" for a server which requested unwanted access, I never got bothered again by it; however, FiP has some limitations: It only works for user mobile, not for root; so e.g. in Cydia, annoying ads etc. are still there. And also, my (unverified) impression is that FiP starts forgetting rules (I looked into the rules plist and its had 32,000+ lines - maybe there is a limit of 2^15 = 32,768 or something like that?)

To get around this, I decided to make use of the hosts file, which doesn't have these limitations; where, e.g., the hosts file had an entry "127.0.0.1 stupidadserver.com", I could remove stupidadserver.com from FiP's Global Deny list. However, there is a catch: FiP then again asks about stupidadserver.com, not realizing that it is already redirected to the localhost.

So, essentially, both FiP and the hosts file do the job (smacking down stupidadserver.com) where I only want the hosts file to do this. Is there any way to relieve FiP of its duties for all those entries in the hosts file?

Thanks and best regards,
HS
