Jailbroken phone with speaker problems

I have searched the forum and internet for the right solution to this problem but cant seem to find any specifics.

I jailbroke a 2g and everything seems to work fine, except the external speaker. The phone gives and error about a device not being compatible. Now the speaker works with everything except game sounds and ipod external sound. ie, i can hear incoming calls, and the springboard sounds, but not the sounds from games or music.

my understanding is that there are two problems with the 2g speaker. One is a bad connection with the earphones. That does not seem to be the problem. the other is a bad jailbreak, or something corrupt in the jailbreak files...because it has problems just like i described.

I was going to re-jailbreak, but i thought i would find out if anyone has run into this problem and found out the exact procedure for fixing it.

A few others have been having problems with the external speaker and remedied the situation by putting in and taking out the headset plug from the headset jack a few times and that might do the trick. Sometimes the iPhone thinks the headset is still plugged in for some reason...

I am aware of that problem. That is why in my first post I stated that is not the problem with this phone. This is a software glitch. I do plan on re-jailbreaking, but it would be nice to know if it may be the phone, or quickpawn version or something else.

I may just have to do this blind. If i get it working I can post an update.

Update

Okay, here is the story so far.

I restored the phone to factory 2.1 software. The main screen showed the Usb connection and itunes then gave me the basic screen to activate the iphone. This is about as factory defaulted as it gets. At this point I got the error message again. basically: "the connected device is not supported by iphone. Would you like to switch to airplane mode to cut down on audio interference? you will not be able to make or receive phone calls. yes-no"

at this point it must be some other problem with the phone, so I just jailbroke and unlocked it. It is a minor nuisance since i can still hear incoming calls, and the sms warning and other sounds, just not sounds from games or the ipod. it is odd.

BTW: When this problem began I did insert the headset jacks several times and nothing worked. An interesting point is that with the usb connection I get ALL sounds perfectly. I have heard of this working the same with the docking station. but as soon as you unplug, the warning comes back and the sounds drop out.

iphone external speaker weirdness -won't work

Funny your problem and mine are similar, I don't have nor have ever had a jailbroken phone.Yesterday my phone started showing the :"this accessory is not made to work with iphone.Would you like to turn on airplane mode to reduce audio interference? You will not be able to make or recieve calls" error every few minutes, it seems like it thinks a device is connected.

Thus far I have tried cleaning out the headphone jack with a qtip,blown out the headphone jack, inspected the hole and can see no lint etc. I have tried plugging and unplugging my headphones dozens of times, I have reset the phone. restarted it repeatedly, resynched it with current itunes software and I still end up with the error popping up every few minutes and my exteranl speakers only work for ringing and speaker phone NOT music or key pads or apps. I can hear everything fine thru the headphones.

I have not resorted to the itunes/iphone restore yet...unless you guys have other options thats next

btw the only new app i've loaded recently was pac man which i have now deleted.

You should inspect the bottom of the iPhone in the port. Check to make sure there is no lint there. Only time you would get that message about attached device. If not, then I recommend sending to Apple.

Sorry OP, but this situation sounds unique to me and since I've not experienced it first hand, I'll not steer you down the wrong path. Hopefully there are some others within the MR Community that can give you a hand. My JB has been clean so far, w/o any issues, other than the occasional lag between apps. I'll keep checking back on your thread, since I'm quite interested in the remedy. Good luck...

I have not found the exact cause of the problem but I know what it is. According to Apple, the problem is with the bottom jack. It is either bad or there is something in there. I have tried to clean it, but nothing works. Plugging in the charger or dock allows it to work but the removal brings back the problem. I will try to clean it some more, but I may have to replace the bottom port. The problem occurred about the same time I jailbroke the phone, so I assumed it was something to do with that. It turns out to be just a coincidence. My phone is out of warranty so Apple was at least nice enough to tell me what the problem is, but they wont fix it for free. I didnt ask how much it would be to repair since I had not tried cleaning the port yet.


either way, it is only a slight inconvenience.

Apples suggestion was to keep the port clean and, with winter coming on, to be careful of putting it in your coat because it will collect lint and cause this problem.
