Hi there,

In order to launch Adobe Illustrator CS6 in Yosemite I was asked to install the legacy Java SE6.

"To open Adobe Illustrator CS6 you need to install the legacy Java*SE*6 runtime"

I downloaded it from this link (https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) and I was able to launch Illustrator.

Is there any security concern downloading this Java as it is an older version? Because Apple stopped this Java release.

Just be sure to disable the plugin in your browser. (In Safari: preferences > security > Internet plug-ins > website settings > set Java to ‘block’.)

Then If disable the plugin in my browser I will prevent my rMBP, running Yosemite from No zero-day or exploit running Java? :apple:

Same with Mavericks?

Unfortunately, I don't find any alternative but using this old java version in order to launch Illustrator.

I also wonder if the latest java version (from Oracle) can "co-exist" with the old apple version.

Never say never. Keeping your system up-to-date and disabling Java in the browser is the best protection against Java exploits. For everything else, the usual caution against malware applies. If you only use it for that one application then there is likely no harm in using it.

Disabling the Java web plugin if you do not need it is a VERY good idea, given its bad record for security problems. That being said, risks associated with "desktop" Java are present but small enough that you probably won't notice them.
