Java: Where ?

Hello,

Wanted to see if I truly already have Java installed, and that it is enabled.

So I went to Spotlight and put in "Java"..
Came back with 'Java Web Start", and that it is an Application.
Fine.

But there is absolutely nothing in my Application Folder that seems to say or imply Java.
Or, in Finder, or Launchpad.

Probably just missing seeing it, but I give up.

Where should I look for it, please ?

You probably don’t have Java installed. If Java is installed, you’ll know because there will be a Java settings item in System Preferences.

In Terminal, just type

java -version

If Java is installed, you'll see what version you have. If it's not installed, you'll receive a prompt.

You probably don’t have Java installed. If Java is installed, you’ll know because there will be a Java settings item in System Preferences.

Apple's Java installer doesn't include a System Preference.

That's not from Apple's Java installer; that's from Oracle's.
Apple's Java installer comes from here: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 and may work for some Java needs better than Oracle's.

Indeed. My point being though, that your reply made it seem like there was nothing to find in System Preferences which would indicate Java’s presence.

Well, there may or may not be a System Preference. The presence or absence of it is not a useful indicator whether or not Java is installed. I've also seen instances where the preference remains but Java is no longer installed.
