I'm pretty tempted to get an Up3. The bioimpedance stuff looks great, being able to detect stress and hydration levels, plus the usual sleep tracking and smart alarm stuff.

However, I'm also thinking that if I cave and get an Apple Watch (my head says to wait for second gen, but I have low willpower), it might have a bit too much overlap with the band, and make it a little redundant.

Any thoughts on this?

For what I've seen and the speculation Apple watch will not have the same sensors of the UP3...
Your choice is dependant on what you'll be using the watch and the band I think.
I've also read that there will be a new one from Nike...

The UP3 does look good. I just have to say that after buying and returning the Basis Peak, I'm pretty sure I can't do a watch. I find bands to be more comfortable and less intrusive. So for now, the Apple Watch is off the table for me although I was very interested in it.

Does it sync to Health app? I imagine I'd use this app for most of my health stuffs because of its privacy so anything that doesn't sync to it will be off the table for me.

Yeah Jawbone Up bands sync to Health. I have the original Up and I love it. I have been really tempted to upgrade to the Up3 while I wait for the  watch 2. I'm much more interested in the health and sensor aspect of smart devices than the app integration. I like sleeping with my Jawbone and I don't see the  watch being all that different from the Jawbone in that aspect yet.

Nice. I don't find where it specifically stated it syncs with Health but if it did, I might buy it just to track my sleep. It's cheap enough.
Doesn't like its design but it looks light-weight, suitable to wear to bed.

If money is no object, go for both. Apple Watch is going to marketed as for fitness purposes, and there is of course HealthKit (which Jawbone products sync with), but I really think Apple's focus is going to be on creating a mini iPhone. Companies like Jawbone and Fitbit are going in a different direction, and your UP will do what it does much better than the Watch will.

I agree. It'd be useful if someone can provide informations on how accurate this band is. The number of sensors is one thing. The accuracy may, most of the time, not related to how many it has.

Has anyone considered this one (Up3) vs the new Fitbit models?

FitBit won't support Apple HealthKit.

If you are looking at the FitBit Charge, I'd also recommend looking at the Garmin VivoSmart.

For the Charge HR, I think the Up3 will be better.

For the Surge, it may fit those that don't care about the Apple HealthKit and want GPS but there are also Garmin watches (FR 15? I think) that may fit better except that the HR is based on a chest strap.

In terms of accuracy, I know the M8 processor in the iPhone is more precise than my original version1 Jawbone Up. I can't say for the newer two generations. Though the new Up 3 has a lot more sensors like a gyroscope to help with movement. The Jawbone was the 2nd more precise in a test try between Fitbit Jawbone, iPhone, and something else in a review a while back.

The new Up3 has some kick ass sensors that should become very interesting once the software upgrades are implemented. I mean the heart rate sensor sure, but the hydration tracking and skin temperature. That's sick

Thank you. This's very useful. I hope more and more sites test the accuracy of all these sensors thoroughly. It will benefit everyone, and will prevent someone scam customers with "MORE".

For some reason, I'm not digging the looks of this new Up3. It just looks unrefined somehow. Almost as though it's still a prototype or something... I've only seen the two versions / colors though.

See this is my only problem. They're releasing two initially and then a whole bunch more options later. But that means waiting which is always a struggle.
Here are some other colors: http://www.businessinsider.com/jawbone-up3-models-colors-patterns-2014-11?op=1

Also in terms of accuracy, apparently Jawbone is using a technology from company BodyMedia which has been FDA certified as a clinical device!

Interesting. Are those just "possibilities" or are certain future editions? I do see the Jawbone name by the pic though. It also looks like some don't have the heart rate "nubs/sensors" too.

Well Jawbone purchased BodyMedia which had highly rated armbands that checked for bioimpedence. If they are putting that technology in the Up3, I'm definitely going to try it. I really enjoy my Garmin VivoSmart but it may be temporary until the Up3 is available.

Yeah I'm not sure about the string ones. But some of those will probably come to fruition. Especially the leather ones. See, I'm super stuck because I want to buy the Up 3 but I wanna wait for new options. Then again, I won't get the leather ones since they're not as resistant to sweat and water.

Yeah, I'm really excited about the future software updates. That'll be amazing. I'm just waiting on initial reviews before ordering. No need to preorder.

Regarding these points. I agree that the options that they currently have offered (silver and black) are my favorites. If anything, maybe at least see what the the blue one is like. From the blog, it looks like there's some sort of 'cloth like' one available too. Those stringy ones (actually all but the standard bands) are more for fashion if you ask me rather than sport. So maybe that's why there're no sensors in those bands.

Then, with no sensors in the bands, you now have limited functionality. I saw in the video that the person can see their heart rate when working out, drinking coffee, and watching a scary movie. That wouldn't be possible if the nubs in the bands were indeed heart rate sensors.

Were there any clues as what these 'software updates' would mean or give us?

Currently the Up3 can measure a resting heart rate. So future updates will have on demand heart rate, hydration levels, bioimpedence based stuff, respiratory, skin temperature, stress levels, and galvanic skin response.

All from the sensors that are already built in.

I had the original UP (the second version) and currently use the UP24. I'm planning on getting the UP3, though I haven't pre-ordered yet - I want to make sure they work the bugs out first. I'm also getting the Apple Watch.

For me, the UP3 will be for sleep tracking, steps, and other health stuff, and the Apple watch will be for Apple Pay (I have a 5s) and notifications from my phone. This division means that I don't have big worries about battery life on the Apple watch (because I don't need it for sleep tracking), and I can get a leather watch band rather than something sporty, because I won't need the Apple watch for workouts.

Just my personal use case.

I have considered the same set up. But long run, I'd prefer the use of only one. At the same time, there's the big screen-no screen benefits so it seems like an impossible scenario. I'll need both to be happy for the different activities that I do.
