I went to JC Penny’s today and they said they removed Apple Pay. Not like I shop there a lot, but I'm glad I remembered I had cash on me to pay (I haven’t carried a CC in weeks).

I think it has been removed for some time now. They want their card in your Wallet. I go there very little now. JCP's loss-----

I used NFC there as recently as February. If they did remove support it was at some point since then. I'll see what happens next time I go there for a haircut (the only reason why I spend money there anymore).

Honestly, any retailer that is anti-technology and tends to go backwards by thinking that their proprietary technology will prevail can go to...well, you fill in the rest. I get that new technologies require testing, planning, and implementation, so I'm not expecting everyone to have it working, but for places to turn off working NFC in hopes of other stuff, and a struggling company, no less? It looks like it was intentional:

(For what it's worth, Apple Pay works really nicely at the other two anchors in my local mall...Von Maur and Macy's).

Wow. Reminds me of when Apple Pay was working at CVS at they turned it off because they were trying to push that hideous CurrentC alternative.

JCP as a company is pretty much dead anyway.
Will close up completely this year IMO. Been dying a slow death for years.
