Jelly Bean for US SG3 "Available in the coming months"

I'll be really disappointed if the American variant of the S III doesn't get a Jelly Bean update this year. "In the coming months" is extremely vague, and ridiculous. If that's the case I'll either be going Nexus, or pick up an iPhone 5, and rid myself of untimely update.

While I had Jellybean on my S III for awhile, I would prefer an official Rom and this kinda irks me. I am going to go with a Nexus phone next time around.

Google needs to take the carriers out of the process of updating Android. There's no reason they need to be involved. Just like iOS.

Google would never be responsible for updating the Galaxy S III. This is Samsung's doing.

I know. I hate it when there is a feature on a new handset or OS that can't be run on an older phone. And I agree about bloatware. When a manufacturer adds icons and crap apps onto your phone and it is impossible to get rid of them. Ugghh, so awful and those type of phones suck. Glad that never happens with iDevices.

While it would be nice to have immediate updates in N America, the carriers have to much control. Only manufacturer that could end that is Samsung. Of course, if someone really wants the update, they can get it from CODA.

Because I don't think it's as much Google's responsibility as it is the OEMs. Plus Google always touts their "openness."

Thats personal choice.

Luckily with Android if you dont like the OEM skin, you can download a launcher. Ive never been a fan of TouchWiz, but within 2 minutes ive got GoLauncher downloaded from the play store and set up.

Likewise, the missus wanted something extra with her Galaxy Nexus, so downloaded Nova Launcher Prime from Google Play.

Some people love TouchWiz, HTC sense, Pure Android whereas some people like to use launchers.

The great thing with Android is that you get the choice.

I do agree though that carriers should keep thier noses out.

Ah this week I posted my feelings over android and the lack of updates and someone attacked me that jelly bean will come to S2 sooner than we think.

google does not control android updates.

I'm glad I didn't rush out and buy a SG3 like ppl told me to do when I was looking for a new phone. People kept saying JB was coming soon...well doesn't look like it to me. Also I won't get a Nexus while I'm on Verizon. The Verizon Nexus doesn't even get upgrades right away.

Everything is slightly worse on Verizon including the iPhone. There 3G is terribly slow, can't do voice/data even with the iPhone 5, they hold up ALL Android phone updates including Nexus devices. I'd just as soon have an S3 on Verizon as any of their offerings.

My employer pays for my iPhone and they use Verizon....I hate it....good coverage but no better then att in my area and more lte but that's it...

Good on you. If someone said buy and iphone I wouldnt listen either without looking into it.
ICS works wonderfully on the Galaxy S3. A month in two month wait should really be an issue.

JB was released today for my country and carrier. I would prefer having the US variant because it has S4 processor, which is better for development than the exynoss.

the next phone I buy will be a nexus one. I love the gs3, but having to wait months for an OS update is dumb. If the next nexus is only $350-400 off contract I'll probably sell my s3 and pick it up.
I'm running CM10 on mine, but I shouldn't have too. same with jaibreaking on the iphone.

Maybe buying a phone and/or not returning it in time is the real problem. If I was dissatisfied with the GS3 ICS touchwiz stock ROM, I would have returned it ASAP. I say nobody has a right to complain for at least a year or life of their contract.

Maybe this is pouring salt on the wound, but Galaxy Nexus are getting 4.1.2 today, and now expandable notifications can be expanded with one finger.

But in all seriousness, I think OEMs are getting better at rolling these updates out, but... not by much. Your safest bet, if you care about timely updates, is still to go Nexus. It's the best version of Android anyway.
