Discuss the upcoming JerrySIM release and options here !

** ABSOLUTELY NO RELEASE OR BLOGGING OR WHATEVER PUBLIC BEFORE THE GROUP
AGREES, THANKS, LET'S NOT MESS THIS RELEASE UP. **

Why JerrySIM ?
--------------

Reference to the cat & mouse game. Suggest your better alternative names here

What's JerrySIM ?
-----------------

A special SIM that patches 4.6 bootloader using the STK exploit to enable
firmware downgrade and custom firmwares.

Dinopio validated the patches on 26/01/08 and is the first anySIMed 4.6
See http://dinopio.pastebin.com/f4bf7af86

What are our release options ?
------------------------------

The idea is to make JerrySIM avaiable to the public at a minimal cost and
avoid creating new scam opportunities for our *SIM chinese buddies.

So the release must be coordinated very carefully to limit the risks of having
it cloned before it can be mass consumed.

The following release scenario is suggested

T0 : jerrySIM announcement and video proof, no release

T0+TS : release of jerrySIM as an obfuscated (free registration needed with
phone IMEI/serial on a server) TurboSIM application

T0+SC : release of jerrySIM as a Silvercard code (preferred)

T0+FC : release of jerrySIM as a Funcard code (optional)

TS timeframe : T0 + a few days
SC/FC timeframe : TS + 1 week max

Hot on the heels of the 1.1.3 Jailbreak, the united iPhone Dev Team / Elite
Team taskforce is proud to announce our 1.1.2/1.1.3 hardware assisted
software unlock solution, project JerrySIM for OOTB 4.6 phones.

With JerrySIM, you'll be able to flash custom firmwares on your baseband and
welcome back our beloved AnySIM. Moreover, one click is enough to unlock and
you don't need to keep the jerrySIM in your phone - meet some friends and
start unlocking away

Because we hack for fun, and xSIMs are a pain for the community, we plan to
release JerrySIM as a free Silvercard/Funcard code, to let anyone create his
own card at a minimal cost. A TurboSIM version will also be available in the
coming days.

We do not wish to disclose more details about the bug right now, but be assured
it will be commented on when it's time to do so - in the meantime, let our
xSIMs friends and baseband pals have some fun, they deserve it too

Stay tuned, even more than ever

iPhone Dev & Elite Teams

Yeah well, it wasnt finished, and that douche Zibri released the unfinished app, so now it is out in public, Apple can patch it AND the Dev Team has vowed not to do any further development to show that Zibri was and still is useless. So for all of you guys with 1.1.3 OTB, you can thank Zibri because there will not be a way to downgrade the baseband because Zibri has no idea how and development by the people who know what they are actually doing has now stopped...

People have taken sides actually on this debate. Zibri or the Dev Team. I personally expect Apple to catch up to us.

Jobs said once that keeping hackers out of the iPhone's system was a cat and mouse game (much like Tom & Jerry). Jobs however said he wasn't sure who was the cat or the dog (because not even Apple code is flawless, hence allowing hacks and by this I think he even felt hackers of the iPhone as a threat).

With the community breaking up taking sides I think the game has turned us (iPhone jailbreakers, hackers, unlokers) in Jerry the mouse and Apple into Tom the cat. If we don't stick together Apple will surely catch up to us and do what Tom has never managed to do in his life; kill the mouse.

JerrySIM Project seemed to be going well; however, Zibri ruined it for all of us. However we must also see his point, a simple post saying that the Dev team already solutions for the software-unlock would give people hope and stop people from bricking phones.

Both sides have good points and both sides did bad in a certain time, but this is not time to fight we must unite. Unite before Apple "divides and conquers the mouse'

Your thoughts...

Siding with Zibri simply means you're too selfish to listen to or to try to understand the Dev team's intentions. If you can name one time that the Dev team has done anything selfish in regards to bettering themselves, making money off of their hacks, etc. I'd appreciate it.

What did this leak accomplish? Nothing. It doesn't help the common person who feels no need to risk doing a hardware hack and it helps those who wish to profit off of it. If you want to argue the Dev team should have just leaked out that they've figured out a way but are refining it, sure, I'll agree with that - at least then people would have been aware that a solution was coming and that they can hold off on any more expensive solutions until this one came out. But to say that there is merit in leaking something like this prematurely, especially when you yourself put in absolutely no work to develop it, is simply wrong.

This is a huge nonsense fight that is only ending in hurting the community. I don't really care who is a douche or not, who "wins" or not. I just care for them to work the best they can and put their talents (yes, talents) into practice, not some name-calling game. It all has come to pure greed, and that is not what it should be.

They need to stop acting like children and just goddam release the exploit, or get their act together and decide what position they are going to take (both Zibri and the Dev team). Whatever happens, they need to get over this and collaborate for the best of everyone, nobody wins if they continue like this.

yea, adn thi was somethign we really need. i myself as well as tons of users want to go down to 3.9 form 4.6 to enable REAL unlocking as well as all the other goodies you can do (downgrades when needed and whatever)

this sucks, a lot. espcially seeing as sim solutions liek stealthsim atleast, dont work in 1.1.3 baseband... :(

EDIT: the fact that he released the code before it was done made them chose to stop development on it, seeing as he (i guess_ wanted to take fame. The unfinished code willsit there now.. and.. e useless to everyone who needed it righ tbad, liek myself :(

Geohot just released a real software only unlock, which in my view, kills this project. So much for the drama.

My thoughts

for those of you that are wondering my position on this. It is stated in the third post of this thread. Reason is I forgot to make myself clear in the first post due to space issues. So I want to prevent any misunderstandings.
