JITouch, wacom tablet as multitouch mouse replacement.

Hi

We are about to get tablets at work to desgin on and as the wacom bamboo tablets support multitouch, i was wondering if anyone knows if it (or anything similar) will add more functions to the tablet? I've found the added capabilities of jitouch indispensable so would love to have that functionality with my desktop mac pro. I've contacted the people at jitouch but thought i'd probably get more response from here.

Has no one with a bamboo tablet tried to add additional multi-touch features to it then? I find using the trackpad on my MBP quicker than using a mouse for most things so was thinking of using the trackpad as a primary input device on my mac pro but think I'll miss lots of the shortcuts.

Does anyone use a tablet over a mouse and have any tips or opinions on it? I think i might also do this using my MBP at home when connected to my monitor as the tablet has a larger area than the trackpad and i don't have a mouse.

Simple answer: you can't as Wacom uses its own multitouch framework and not Apple's like JTouch, BetterTouchTool, etc. do. You'll have to wait for Wacom to add it or to change their own framework to Apple's.

I thought about just getting the Pen tablet w/o the touch. Instead I got the Pen & Touch Bamboo because I was thinking down the road I might hook it up to a MacPro or iMac. I'm using my Pen & Touch tablet with my MBP. I like that you don't have to take your hand off of the tablet. idk if if they will add more features, but for now it's just a convenience.

Thanks for that, guess i'll just have to carry on switching and closing tabs with my keyboard for now!

mofunk do you find your tablet more useful than your trackpad then? I've heard mixed reports about using a tablet as a mouse replacement and needed to decide if, when i set up my home workstation properly, to get a mouse or a tablet.

Apple's trackpads are far more accurate than the Wacom touch tablets. The Wacom touch tablets seem to miss some of the gestures at times where as the Apple trackpad does not. Moving the cursor around, etc. also seems to be a lot smoother on the Apple trackpad. Simply put, the Wacom multitouch sucks when compared to Apple's.

Rarely do I use a mouse. I use a lot of shortcut keys. If I'm at my computer for a long time, then I might use the mouse. Apple's trackpad rocks. The two finger (right click) gesture, love it. The tablet I find more useful when drawing, zooming in/out of workspace. Occasionally I will use to navigate to other apps.

I do find it a little tricking when I want to click on a tool. Once I figure out my workflow and which tool I use most I can just add to the tablet. But for the most part its a nice addition to your mac. Useful yes. Perfect no (when comparing the touch features.)
