joining 2 mp4's into a single mp4

i have 2 parts of a movie converted, both mp4's and would like to join them to a single file. i have quicktime pro, but it seems when i combine the 2 files i have the option of saving as a .mov, which won't allow proper metadata info for itunes. i have tried to export as mp4 but the "pass through" option is not available for some reason. i obviously dont want to reconvert it, just join the 2 existing files. i also tried visual hub using the pass-through option and "stich videos together", but it got stuck when combining the 2 videos.
seems like a relatively simple thing to do.. is there a program that will do this for me? or can it be done through terminal even?
 
I think I've done that in MPEG Streamclip before. It's a handy program for editing out commercials and the like also.
 
how do you do this in mpeg streamclip? i just tried it out and just get audio.

i know i did this with qt pro before, but had the "pass-through" option, and for this file i don't.
 
The easiest way I've encountered is to combine the two VIDEO_TS folders into one using DVD2OneX, and then encoding that using Handbrake/VisualHub.
 
thing is, i've already converted them to mp4's, so now i have 2 files. shouldn't this be something really basic and simple to do? :confused:
 
You can try ffmpegx. It's been a while since I've used it, but there should be an option for passthrough. Either that or just dump it in a .mov container and wait for MetaX to add tagging for .mov. I've read the dev is working on it.

You could also use VisualHub, set it to join the files in the main window, then in the advanced window set it to pass through the video (-vcodec copy).
 
quicktime pro does this - select the one you want to copy - copy it and then go to the one you want to paste it on to and move the position slider to the end and paste it, then save.

Launch DTOX, then click the middle button (I forget what it's called). Add the first VIDEO_TS folder and make sure that the title and audio track you want are selected. Then click on the "++" button at the bottom and add the second VIDEO_TS folder, again making sure that the proper title and audio track are selected. Then click the green run button, select "File Set," and it will go about combining the two. In settings, make sure you have selected to output to a dual-layer disk so that it won't compress the vobs.

It works? I never had the 14 hours to wait for it to finish. It's good to know it works.

File/Open and select the two (or more) files. Then just do a File/Save As and you have your combined files. I have noticed some avi's will lose their audio so typically, before I use Streamclip, I just open up the files in Quicktime and do a Save As self contained .mov file and then open them up in MPEG Streamclip. Note: beacuse you're selecting two files at the same time I think naming convention (xxx1, xxx2, etc.) will matter. Works great and both steps (Quicktime to .mov and MPEG Streamclip) only take minutes to process.
 
How can I do this on a PC?

I want to combine the extended versions of Lord of the Rings three disc 1 and disc 2 into One big file.

I know about Dtox but is there something for the PC that I could use? Thanks for any help I could get.
