OS X Joystick eratic?

When ever I use my joystick it never works. It makes everything go erratic. In 10.8 its fine but 10.7 nothing works. Since 10.7 came with the mini and not on a separate stick or as a download is there any way to do a fresh install of 10.7. Recovery Partition just restores from time machine. Is there any way to do a fresh install.
 
I figured it out. You have to erase the drive first and then install 10.7. All from recovery partition, no usb stick needed.
