TIFF if you are after image quality. Totally different animals, TIFF is a low loss format where quality is important. JPEG is highly compressed (or can be) and is designed to produce low file sizes. A TIFF image could easily be 100MB where the JPEG would be 5MB for similar resolution. Most online places expect JPEG for this reason.

online prints

The challenge with using TIFF files for online prints, is that many online print vendors will tell you the file is too large. Some of the biggest sites may work with your TIFF files though. I just searched it and this may be helpful:

Not an endorsement for shutterfly, but the info may be helpful

You could also use PNG-24 (Lossless Compression) for High Quality web and transparency.

Just go to a printer? Bigger retail Stationery stores usually have them.

Most of the time you have to order .TIFF prints. .TIFF is used when someone makes something for print-out. If you're just going to get some files off of Google Images for a poster or something, then .JPG is fine. If you're looking for digital artwork done in Photoshop or Illustrator, you should contact the creator, since they can save it in a .TIFF file.
