JPG file - trying to save as, but not an option

Hi, I am trying to save a Photoshop File as a JPG file.
I have merged the layers down, yet I do not see JPG there as an option to save. Am I leaving out a step somewhere? How can I get the JPG option for saving this file? I'm using Photoshop CS3 on Mac.

Try going to image>mode> and have rgb and 8 bits/ channel selected.

After you do that, go to Save for Web/Devices instead of Save As. You'll have many more choices there when saving.

Changing it from 16 channels to 8 channels made JPG appear as an option. Thank you much!
