Jumping the ship . . . finally

Hello everyone at MacRumors. I haven't posted here much so I thought I would share a little bit about what I'm currently doing with my PCs. I built a brand new rig last October/November and I paid some serious bucks for this nice machine:

AMD Athlon 64 3500 Venice
ASUS A8n-SLI
EVGA 7800GT (SLI Ready)
1 GB Corsair XMS RAM
160GB Western Digital SATA HDD
500 Watt Aspire SLI Ready PSU
Cooler Master Preatorian Case (Black)
Dell 2005FPW 20.1" Widescreen
Saitek Eclipse Keyboard
Logitech MX-518 Mouse

Turns out that the Christmas holiday put an end to my gaming habits. I dunno what happened (besides grabbing a 360), but I barely used this rig. I've been using my iBook for everything and carrying it around the house to whereever I go. Mac has definitly won me over any PC, any day. I love working with an OS that doesn't give me problems or having to have anti-virus software that bogs down my machine. It's great!

Here recently, my father and I went down to the Apple store to check out some new Intel based Macs and were throughly impressed. I liked the 17" iMac with the built in iSight and my dad was checkin out the Powerbooks and Macbook Pros. So I got to thinking about my PC . . . "It just sits there in the floor!". I finally got the guts to put it up for sale.

Not to advertise or anything, but I first thought "Hey, since it hasn't been used at all (really), I could probably get about $1100 out of it!" I put it up for sale on a few forums but I couldn't get anything out of it. The only bites I got were for my 40+ PC games I sold for $215 plus shipping. As of right now, my PC is down to $800 shipped and I have yet to get ANYTHING. I mean wow. I hate to do it but I'm going to have to break down into individual parts.

So, in short, just wanted to let everyone know that I'm finally jumping ships from PC/iBook to iMac/iBook. It's definitly hurting my wallet to do so but in the end, I know it'll be worth it. Hoping to contribute more to this community of Mac users in the future!

Mac OS X is well worth it!(i'm a fan of consle gaming over PC/Mac gaming myself) I think 360 and iMac/iBook will treat you well!

I have an iBook/iMac combo(however the iMac part is getting older) and its the best 2 computers i have EVER had!
 
Good luck with your PC. I will be keeping my windows laptop and will be getting a imac to replace my desktop

See, I'm going to another college this fall to finish up my Bachelors in computer info tech and I have to have some sort of Windows PC to do programming that sort of stuff. So, I'm trading my dad for a small time his Compaq laptop for my iBook, just so I can get the homework done. Haha. I can't wait to get my iMac. Stupid PC just won't sell!
 
I notice you liked the 17" iMac, but let me offer some advice.

The contest for Windows XP on Macintosh contest has just been won, and so far the iMac 20" is the only iMac that Windows XP has been used on. So you might want to take a look at www.onmac.net and see for yourself. Might be worth getting the 20" iMac.

EDIT: Well the site is overburden with traffic, so perhaps take my word for now ;)

I though I ted somewhere that the 20" is the onlyone that has not been tested.

I wouldn't mind getting the 20" but I prolly won't have the money by the time I sell my PC stuff. Isn't it a $400 difference?

Congratulations. I have a VERY similar rig (Athlon 3500+, 1GB RAM) that I use everyday and some older macs, and I think that I'm going to buy my first NEW apple machine soon with an intel iBook that I can boot windows on as well. I just love the feel of OS X. Anyway good luck, oh and go with the 20", I have a Dell 2005fpw which uses the same samsung TFT and its phoenominal. :D
 
It would be cool to be able to boot up XP every once in a while on an iMac. Haha, never did think about that. Wonder if we can get some PC games to work? Anybody know of them trying games?

I love Apple. They are just like BMWs, they have a style of their own and it's SAHWEETT! Thanks for the replies guys. Keep em coming.

On a certain level i think you are taken more by the 'laptop' aspect of it than the mac aspect of the ibook. I suggest you wait till you get to college and then see what you need for your homeworks. You might need a new windows laptop after all. Buying deskops now a days except for in labs or office space is just a waste. (cf: it is hard selling one even these days!). Wait till they get intel ibooks out.

Very true about the laptop thing. I love being able to go anywhere with it. BUT I have fallen in love with Mac OSX. In case I didn't mention, I am majoring in Computer Info Tech and I'll have my bachelors within the next two years. In the past 3-4 years, I've been to two different Community Colleges/Tech School doing nothing but working on PCs. And let me tell you what, it can be a pain in the arse.

I am A+ and Net+ certified (about a year and a half now). I've had about every problem you can imagine with a PC or other people's PC that they've brought to me.

I've been wanting to get a desktop Mac for a few reasons. Number one, I want to have a place to store all of my music and photoshop works. You guys are going to think I'm silly, but I only have it on my laptop because I'm afraid something will happen with my PC, in case I'll lose it all. I just love the way OSX handles my stuff compared to Windows.

The iMacs are just plain sexy. :D One thing that my iBook can't give me that a desktop could would definitly be higher resolution! It sucks having to do photoshop work on 1024x768. Anyways, there are a few more reasons why I would want a desktop over a laptop. I think my "future" iBook/iMac combo will be a joy to have.
 
Good luck on selling your PC... you actually make me want to sell mine now, too. I barely use it, so why leave it there? I could make a decent amount off it.

Anyway, welcome to the good side. I realize you already have an iBook, but getting a second Mac proves you're stuck with us. :D I'll actually be in the same boat as you pretty soon. I just can't decide which Intel Mac I actually want. I'm leaning towards the Mac mini so I could always get my own display.
 
If money were no object in my situation, you can best believe I'd be buying a decked out Macbook Pro and keep my Dell 2005FPW. The MacBooks are just amazing.
