Understand that a product's announcement does not necessarily entail that product's immediate availability for shipping. Depending on how much inventory Apple has built up of the new MacBook Pro, it may be a while before units were actually begin to ship. You should be able to place a product order from the Apple Online Store shortly following the new MBP's announcement.If new MBP are released that day. Will we be able to go to apple.com and order online?

when macbook pros were introduced at macworld 2006, they were available for online ordering, but they didn't ship the systems out until early march. something similar might happen again, or they might be available for immediate shipment. nobody knows.
Yeah, this really varies with Apple as far as I can tell. Sometimes, like when the announced the Mac Pro, the new products can be purchased immediately (usually with a longer shipping time than usual because of all the new orders), but other times, like with the 
TV and iPhone, they're just announced and not available right away. Really we won't know until June 11, I'd think.

This is a little off topic but, my only experience with buying an apple product was the first gen ipod nano which sucked pretty bad and was updated shortly after. This isn't some kind of trend with apple is it? Should I wait another month or so in case they have recalls? I need it by the beginning of august.
I say they will be released with leopard.
They could release the macbooks/pros before leopard, get a good rush of purchasing, then release leopard later, and get some more sales, maximize profit off of us!
Then again some of us are waiting for Leopard no matter what order they release them in
This is covered in a million threads, but suspects include Intel's new Santa Rosa platform and LED-backlit displays.
I'd like to think that Steve will announce at least one updated product shipping 'today' to pacify fans after the delay of Leopard. Alternatively, we may get nothing until Leopard comes out. I guess it depends whether the sales of any of their product lines are flagging and will need stimulating before Leopard makes it's full debut.
People are hoping for:

LED Screens
Speed increase from new Santa Rosa chipset
