Juno is very anal-retentive...

Can someone tell me how to solve this problem?

A relative recently got a hand-me-down Wintel box from someone. They got rid of their old computer and are planning on using this one.

They told me that the "new" computer doesn't have the software for their internet provider, Juno, on it...and could I help them set it up?

Well, fine. I thought I'd just download Juno's software onto a CD, take it to their house, load it up on their machine and install it, right?

Wrong. I've been all over the place on Juno's web site, and they will not let you download their software unless you sign up for their service...which I am certainly not going to do.

Alternatively, I can order their software on CD...for $10. That, I'm not going to do either.

They will let me download the software...if I use my relatives' login name and password.

I don't want to know my relatives' login and password. It's just not right that I should have it, even if they're willing to give it to me.

Now, they live quite a ways from me. I could have them drive all the way over here just so they can log into Juno's site without me seeing their confidential info...but that seems a ridiculous length to go to just because Juno is so anal-retentive about their service.

Any ideas? Any other place I can get Juno's software?

Or should I just use their info, then tell them to change their password?

Yes. Shortest distance between two points and all that...

I've had to do the same for others when setting up their new Macs — I couldn't care less about accessing other people's stuff. Besides, knowing me, I'd probably forget their passwords within hours anyway.

Give yourself a break — you know it's the easiest way.

Well, they can't download it...unless they go somewhere else to do it. They got rid of their other computer before getting this one. Not smart, I know, but hey...they're using Windows and cheap dial-up. Obviously, they're not too computer-savvy.

I'll probably just use their info to d/l the software. It's just that I feel uncomfortable having access to someone else's account for any length of time.

Well I did a bit of googling, and didn't find a whole lot. Juno really hides their directory listings quite well (To stop people from directly downloading their software for whatever reasons). So far I have only been able to find their MacOS installer, which probably wont help you too much, but maybe you or someone else can figure out where the windows software is located, Ive been trying different variants and abbreviations for windows but no luck so far.

It has older copies of different programs. Now a more recent copy like v.5.0 might work well enough for you to at least get onto the internet, and then they could download a newer copy once they are on. On Junos site it says they don't support the 1.49 version any longer and they will make you upgrade, so perhaps if you use that version they will direct you to a direct link to download it when you try running it with or without real credentials. Anyways there are two more options (The v5.0 and the v1.49). Of course I have no idea how legit the site it, has tons of archived software though, though while it looks legit make sure you virus scan anything you download since your on windows right.
