My office has an MBP and ther eare a couple qwirky things about it. first of all, it is dual booted, and in order to run a different partition you have to hold alt, i thought this was very odd as in my ibook g4 all i have to do to switch partitions is hold c. is alt the default for all MPS or is it just something wierd with this one.

also, a virus scanner pops up at start up, is there any way to disable that as i seems to dramatically slow start up time.

In windows you can control what is loaded at startup by going into explorer, and navegating to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup, where username is your Windows logon name.
There you can remove/add programs you wanted to start automatically.

Actually, every even remotely modern Mac will show a list of available boot partitions if you hold down option (alt) at startup. That's been a feature since the early days of Open Firmware. The picker on the MBP, being EFI based, is significantly faster than the old one, but it's still not expressly a Bootcamp thing.

Last I checked (since WAY back, and still) holding down "c" just told the computer to boot from whatever was in the optical drive. Did it do something else if there was no disc inserted?

You can also select which partition to start up from by default from the Startup Disk prefpane (Mac) or Control Panel (Win, installed along with the Apple drivers).

No sugestion on the virus thing. Depends on how it was installed, whether you're supposed to be disabling it or not, and for that matter whether it's in the MacOS or Windows--you didn't say.
