I probably wont open it for a few days as I am finishing up remodeling of my home office, but figured I'd jump on the Best Buy sale price while I can since you dont see these on sale very often and I dont feel like fighting the hordes on black Friday.

There was always the thought of "should I wait" to see what the next update is before I buy the Imac, but from my experience in purchasing high end consumer electronics (home theater/audio) I've learned that no matter what you buy, there will always be a bigger, better and cheaper technology just around the corner, so might as well buy now and enjoy it. Plus I just love the design of this Imac and cant see how they could improve on the asthetic part of it.

Anyway is there any (out of the box) tips I should follow in making the set up easier, or must have accessories? I'm by no means computer saavy. I will be using the computer just for general internet brousing no business on this one.

It seems everyone suggests the Logitech MX revolution. I dont know if I need anything that fancy. I was thinking the VX revolution might fit the bill better.

8800 graphics card seems popular. Would you suggest that for just using to brouse? I wont be gaming much on it.

Looking foward to sharing with you guys in the future.

I don't think Apple could have made it easier to set the computer up, so I think you'll be fine. Unboxing is very fun, so enjoy! :D

In my opinion, you might not have to go that high-end of a mouse just for internet browsing. Use the mouse that came with it for a little, and if you get fed up, then think about the upgrade. I used my Mighty Mouse for 2 years before I ended up buying a Logitech MX 1100.

Are you asking about upgrading your graphics card? You'll have to use the one that's already in it: 2400 XT. As far as I know, you can't upgrade it at a later date. However, from what you said about how you'll be using the computer, I don't think the added expense would have been worth it.

Good luck with the new iMac and welcome to MacRumors! :)

im curious ..how much was the best buy sale price? i bought one there a week ago and if the price dropped then they need to price match me..was it under 1199.99?

So I got my iMac all set up and am loving it.

I went ahead and bought applecare tonight off ebay with the MS cashback (ironic isn't it)

My question is: Can I sit on my applecare without registering it? Is there a certain timeframe where it will void if I dont register it right away?

Actually, I believe Apple care is good until you register it with the type of computer, it was purchased for. Within reason. I have seen apple care boxes being sold. That are a few years old from 3rd party retailers. I would call and ask. But I would say at least 2 or 3 years. It might and probably is longer.

Just remember For what ever imac you use it for. It has to be less than 12 months old.

I don't think there is a time frame to register but you should confirm. I don't understand the need to register it until you are close to the one year mark. Other than the risk of forgetting, there seems to be no benefit other than telephone support. Why not wait in case you decide to sell the computer or if it gets damaged/stolen?

Actually, I just saw you bought it off ebay. in that case, I would register it right away to make sure your applecare is legit.

I also just ordered 4gb of RAM from OWC.

My Logitech Revolution VX should be here this week.

I've been eyeballing a G-drive mini 500gb HD as well...

...does the madness ever end?? So far I love Mac. I think I'm done with PC for good!
