Sup everyone, just bought a 3gs today, Did some research and I have software version 3.1.2 , I am trying to jailbreak. Ive been googling for a while now and this is what Ive tried.

I know I need to downgrade to 3.0 right?

Ive downloaded iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw now how the hell do I install it and what other programs do I need?

Any help would be useful Thanks everyone

Oh no , There was a problem on my 3gs.

I installed a app from cydia then it said reboot after install so I did and now when it turned back on It only shows the USB and Itunes icon. What do i do?

Be aware of the following:

1) you cannot downgrade your 3GS. Apple has stopped signing the older firmwares, so your phone will not accept them.

2) you may have the new version of iBoot, which would mean that your jailbreak would be "tethered". That is, your phone would no longer be able to boot on it's own. Any time you reboot, completely power off, or run your battery out, you would have to connect to a computer and run blackra1n to get your phone past the boot screen. This is not a huge problem, since most of the time you will just put your phone in sleep mode; but you will need to be aware and not do any updates that could require a restart or run your battery out when you aren't near a computer.

Yes, you can use the same program to jailbreak his also.
Like the above poster said you might have a 3GS with the latest bootloader.
In that case you need to run blackrain each time you need to restart your iphone.

Oh alright So there is no way around having a "tethered" phone?
