Just bought a brand new iMac 27", how to upgrade memory?

Yes Crucial is very good and I'd also recommend OWC i.e. www.macsales.com, they specialize in Macs and have the best pre and post sales support in the business IMHO.
As to how to upgrade it look in your manual or OWC has instructional videos that will show you too.
I just upgraded my brand new 27" i7 yesterday. Additionally to the 2 x 2GB that where built in, I'm using now 2 x 4GB of NuRam memory. You can get it from macsales.com.

I used to always trust Crucial in my Windows days, but I had a problem with them when I bought memory for my iMac.
The 4GB kit that arrived had two slightly mis-matched 2GB SODIMM, and they would not register correctly.
They either showed as 0GB installed when in one bank, or caused a kernel panic when put in the other bank.
It was cheap, maybe $85, so not really worth the RMA process, causing me to pretty much waste the money.
I know it isn't a problem with the iMac because I was able to move the memory from my MacBook Pro to the iMac and it was instantly recognised, although at the slower 1066 MHz MacBook frequency.
I am going to try again through Macsales.com.
My new iMac 27" (2010) came with 4gb.
I just ordered 4gb (2gbx2).... so the total will be 8GB.
I hope it is going to be enough. I run vm with window 7 (64bit) in addition to native snow leopard with CS5 running.
Could it be possible that it is still not enough????

Depends on how you set up your virtual machine. You can limit it to make sure you stay well under your maximum memory available.
When I run my virtual machine, I can get right up against my 8GB total, so when I order from Macsales I might go up to 12GB.
I have been trying to decide between another 4 or 8 gig and am leaning towards the 8 gig.
I'm about to order some RAM from OWC in a few days. My question is, what is the difference between the NuRam and OWC's own? I will be buying a total of 8GB (2x4GB), and the OWC is only $15 more. My own feeling is that the OWC RAM is of better quality/better tested or something. Does anyone know?
According to other posters, the components are the same but the warranty is different, and the testing depth might be different.
According to these same posters, if you buy OWC branded memory, they will send you new RAM in a warranty issue before you send back the old RAM, whereas the NuRAM memory will have to go back before you get the new RAM.
I purchased a 8gig kit from OWC for $168 bringing my machine to 12gigs, night and day difference. Most programs open in 1 bounce, startup went from 1m 50s to around 38 to 40 seconds from the "bong" to desktop and it's allowed me to not worry about closing things like iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie etc.. when starting handbrake or photo editing software. i7's Hyperthreading + 12gigs is insane compared to my old goat 2.4C2D + 4gig MBP.
Highly recommend getting as much ram as you can afford. I will be taking out the 4gig kit probably in a few months and take it to a max of 16gigs. It will be the best 300+ bucks I've spent so far, well at least until I find a 256+gig SSD that works.
