... for $75

is that a deal or what?! My college is selling their old G4 Single 500's, and G4 Dual 533's (to students only)... and I was lucky enough to purchase one of the dual ones (only 5 were available), and I cant wait to pick it up tomorrow. Im going to use it to replace my old POS HP tower 800mhz in my living room.

It comes with 384mb ram, a monitor, keyboard, mouse... all that fun stuff... im not sure how big the HD is, but it was used for video editing (until they upgraded to G5's recently), so i assume its a little big.

so yeah, just thought i'd share my experience, because I found this to be a great deal for the money... and if I dont want it, I can easily sell it on Ebay for more than 4 times that price I payed for it...

so, the moral of my story is, if your college is selling old mac equipment for cheap, check it out, it might be worth it :p

You lucky bastard :p

I am always asking my school when/where/if they sell their old computers but none of my teachers know. Usually, the computers get sent down the line of schools and end up at middle schools and such. At least that was what I was told.

Anyway, congratulations on your purchase.

Wow! That's an awesome deal. What kind of RAM does your HP use you might be able to yank it and through it in your duallie. While your at it toss your HD in there. Unless your going to keep using the HP as a file server or something.

NICE!

Wow that is an amazing price! If only my college had macs to even sell, but if any of you remember the thread about my college not supporting macs at all, then you will know what I am talking about when I say there are no macs here to really even buy used. Congrats on your find and have a blast with the new machine :)

That is a great deal. I'm gonna have to keep an eye out to see if my college is selling any. As someone else asked, what kind of monitor did it come with?

hey guys

i'll be on my way to pick it up in just a moment.

According to my friend who picked one up yesterday, it comes with a 17" Studio Display (Blueberry - CRT). I was kinda hoping it would be the flat panel ADC CRT, but this'll do, tho i probably wont use it.

Im planning on stripping that POS HP, so im hoping I can yank my HP Ram out of that and put it into the new Mac, hopefully get it up to 512. Also the HD too... but it sucks because it comes with a 40GB HD, and my HP has a 60GB HD, I was hoping they would be the same so I could soft RAID them in Tiger... ah well.

eh, felt like replying for anything who cares, lol

anyway, we (me and my friends) went down to the warehouse where the college puts all their old equipment. They had over 400+ G4 towers there... all of them being Single processors between 400 and 466mhz. There were only 10-15 of them that were dual 500/533's. We were hoping these people might of known the difference, but nope. so we ended up sifting through pallet after pallet of G4 towers stacked (never thought I would ever touch and move over a hundred G4 towers in less than an hour, lol). anyway, we ended up finding no dual processors in there, so we just left. Now, just yesterday, we called the warehouse and learned that all the G4 towers that were on the floor were sold, which is a good thing because they will then start bringing in the new pallets of G4's (which more than likely contain the dualies), but they need to go through inventory before they are sold. so we requested a favor, that they put to the side 4 of those dual processor machines. and because we helped them organize their pallets earlier, they were nice enough to agree. So hopefully I will get one of those machines... if not, im all for a 450 single, maybe i'll just do a OWC upgrade or something.

anyway, just thought i'd share my story... :p

Sounds pretty cool. It must have been a real sight seeing all of those Power Mac G4s sitting about. :)
