Well I assume you had an active part in the transaction as well... so choke yourself too... Wait, that didn't come out right. :p

By rights, he should have provided the original OS CDs that came with the machine.

You can buy OS X Tiger from Apple and iLife. You can ask Apple if they will replace the restore disks for you, but don't be surprised in they say no. Then, you'll need to go cruise eBay from disks for your model.

ProTools (unless its the ProTools Free) shouldn't be on there, unless you have a ProTools hardware interface (the software won't work without the interface anyway so it's a wash). You can just throw the ProTools folder away if youre not going to use it. Also search for and remove any file that says Digidesign.

That's a pretty good deal IMO. Quite a bit less than I paid for mine back in April. Of course mine wasn't used, but still... Ask the seller for the restore disks. You really should always have those with your Mac (or any computer).

Go thank him; thats a nice deal.

Dual 1.8GHz PowerPC G5 Processors & 2GB of RAM will give you nice performance! :)

Like you said, your new Power Mac G5 beats the living daylights out of your old G4. But depending on what you plan on using your G5 for, a new video card might help speed things up. You already have 2GB of RAM, so you are fine there. Not much else to say, except keep processor performance (in energy saver) set to highest for optimum performance.

i'd say that's a good buy. i have a dual 1.8 G5 (second gen) with 1.25 GB RAM, 64MB video card and an 80GB hard drive and i'm still getting offers of $1500 for it. great machine, which i will be keeping for a while.

That doesn't sound like to bad of a deal. I believe that the Apple store has had dual 1.8 PM's for $1299. The extra memory that is installed will keep you from wanting/needing to buy memory right away.

Is the monitor an LCD or CRT? If it is LCD then your deal sounds good.

It does sound unusual that a relatively recent vintage machine is missing the discs that would have shipped with it.

Macmall.com has a good deal on tiger, so does macsales.com

You can find deals, but ebay software is one step above p2p software... anything better than 15% less than retail is probably not original softz and not worth the effort.

Buy your OS, even if you are too cheap/broke to buy anything else. You cant risk dodgy performance on everything...
