Hey guys,

I've just purchased a 27" iMac - awaiting delivery.

I bought the new imac to replace my dead macbook. My question, to use the Migration Assistant utility within OSX can I take my HDD out of my macbook, put it into a caddy and will the iMac recognize it and retrieve HDD state?

Thanks!

What's wrong with the MacBook? If the HD is busted, then you cannot recover data without data recovery software which is quite expensive. Migration Assistant won't work AFAIK but you should be able to transfer the files if the HD is working

Migration Assistant should work, I believe. It will work from a Carbon Copy Cloner cloned backup on an attached drive, so I would have thought it should work from the original.

All of this assumes the hard disk isn't damaged, as Hellhammer says.
