Hey! first off this is my first post here. I've been reading for a long time now but finally decided to register. I just bought a Macbook. white, 2.0, 1gig. I'm just wondering what kinds of things I need to look for when it arrives to make sure everything looks good. This is my first laptop. I'm also going to be selling my dual 1.8 desktop with 1 gig RAM. Its just too much computer for my needs and now I have the need for a portable. Is ebay a good place to sell it or should I just take it to a local computer place? These things are heavy so it would be hard to ship.

someone pleaaaaasssee tell me i can upgrade the memory on the regular macbook without taking apart the entire thing? the apple memory is too expensive so i'm going to order more from crucial pretty soon... (maybe 2 gigs total)
also, can i order applecare in a week or two (after my order) i would rather pay cash for that.

I'm personally wondering about the upgradability of the HDD. I can get a HDD much cheaper from where I work and plop it in myself.

But that's the thing. I'd rather not lug around an external everywhere I go. I may go ahead and buy an external for videos and stuff, bu the main data I'd like to keep on the laptop.
Memory is normally user upgradable. I imagine it still will be. Harddrives will not be user accessable.

I was going to get with 512mb and order 1gb piece from crucial, until I realised that it was 2x256mb pieces rather than 1 x 512 (and there's very little difference between 1gb and 1.25gb.)
I already have an intel 2ghz Imac so it's cool this will be one powerful little laptop even if it does have a GMA950..... Looks like I'll be gaming still on my imac or powermac.....

Actually, if you read the main MacBook thread, someone who bought one posted that the hard drive is very easy to upgrade. Just remove the battery, and the hard drive is directly underneath it... just pull a white tab, then remove a few screws from the metal cage over the hard drive.

You might buy for example an extra 1GB for say $50 but you will be taking out $25 worth of 256mb to free up a slot. Effectively making your 1GB stick $75. Sure you can sell the bit you take out but you wont get much. Its always best to get as much RAM as possible when you buy the machine. It is actually cheaper in the long run.

Dont bother, the macbook now has user-upradability for the HDD. You pull out a 'cartridge' right under the battery, as if you were uprgading RAM. Look on the 40-42 pages of the 'Macbook is released' thread in the news discussion forum, a guy posted how to do it in big font.

Actually Ive just had a look at Apples memory options for a new macbook and they are a bit extortionate. 3rd party is probably the way to go.

i can assure you this is incorrect. just dont bother to do the math again.
by selling the original ram and max out by yourself, you safe at least 50%, and that's calculated on Crucial prices, which is slidely more expensive than other online sources.

But what a big piss off is that it costs 310 to upgrade to 2gb with the macbookpro and yet Apple as 407 for 2gb with the MacBook.... ITs the same bloody ram apple ye conning basta***ds......
