Just bought a mid 2012 Mac Pro!

I just got a a quad server model mint condition from quality-macs with original box. The build date is January 3 2013. Apple care expires in a couple weeks. The seller has 100 percent positive feedback. I prob paid to much. 1350. But I really wanted a mint one. I figured I could upgrade the cpu in a year or two if I feel the need.

Welcome to the Mac Pro family. If no SSD in your machine yet, it's highly recommend you to get one. That won't increase the processing power, but that remove the HDD's IO bottleneck, which is the main source make you "feel" the computer is slow (e.g. Open an large app, may cost 15-20s on HDD, but just need 1-2 second with SSD). No matter how fast your CPU, when it's waiting data from HDD, it's just sits there, doing nothing but wait.

Being the server model it comes with 2 1tb drives. It has been upgraded to 16 gb or ram. I have a 1tb ssd I got on black Friday to put in it. I was thinking about getting a pci e adapter to bypass the sata bus.

The Caldigit is a good USB 3.0 though this card is no longer listed and available at Amazon or OWC for more than a month now. Not sure if this model has been phased out. I have the older model, Caldigit FASTA-6GU3 and works fine.
 
Yes, only the current Caldigit FASTA-6GU3 Pro has two internal SATA 6G ports (apart from the two external SATA 6G and two USB 3.0 ports). The next one FASTA 6GU3 PLUS will not.

Another thing to mention the Caldigit ASTA-6GU3 Pro is the only card I have with no issues with Option boot and Windows. Very reliable card.

Congrats. That's not a terrible price, especially in mint condition. A 12 core x5690 version would be well over $3000. So you have plenty of $$$ left over to upgrade down the road should you need the extra horse power.
