Hi All,
I decided to buy a new 27" imac and give my 21.5" to my daughter.
What is the easiest or best way to transfer my files to my new computer.
My biggest concern is my Mac Office Outlook emails folders.
I have never done this on a Mac, so looking for some guidence.
Thanks for any input!

Easiest way is to use a TimeMachine back-up but you can use Target Disk Mode by holding down "T" while it is booting the older iMac and hook it up to the new one via FireWire. It will bring the old one's HDD up in Finder and you can simply drag and drop the files you need.

Apple has thought of you.

When you first start youe new iMac, it will ask you if you want to transfer files from an older machine or TM backup.

Just follow the simple 1-2-3 steps.

If you dont have a FW800 to FW800 cable, you can use a standard ethernet cable as well. Same speed as firewire.

I would NOT recommend using Target Disk Mode and just dragging and dropping the files you need unless you are an advanced user and know which files/folders those are. OS X has thousands of invisible files that you can easily miss when just doing a drag and drop.

Thanks! that seems very simple. I will get the cable.
Thanks again.
