iPhone Just bought an unlocked AT&T iPhone 4 w 4.0.2

It has never been jailbroken. My question is... can I upgrade it to 6.1.2 then jailbreak? Can I just jailbreak it with a iOS6 firmware without my phone being in iOS 6? I've been dying for an answer, and couldn't find it anywhere else, so I am asking it here..

No and no on those. I guess I will just have to update to 6.1.3 then. Or wait until a jailbreak solution, then update

From what I understand, tethered requires a computer to reboot right?

I did this without the sem-tether, and my Safari and Cydia won't open...

Can you suggest me an idea to fix that?

Use redsn0w and hit just boot, this will happen every time you reboot without redsn0w, that is why it is called a tether JB.
