This will be iMac number two (I have a rev a white C2D iMac). I couldn't resist getting the new one. I bought the 20-inch (not base model, the one above).

It says it should deliver between May 30 and June 5.

So... now what do I do while I anxiously wait? Hah.

I just got one of those (but I had them put in a 500gb HD).

I'm in love with the thing! I haven't had any problems, and it's been nothing but a joy. I hope you have a similar experience!

I ordered my refurb macbook on may 19. Now fedex is saying delivery by may 29. Do what I've been doing for the last 8 days, check your email and tracking every 5 minutes.:)

Haha, yeah, I've checked my order status at apple.com/orderstatus a couple times an hour, even though I know it hasn't changed. Hehe. I'm so stoked, my first iMac was amazing, I can't wait to get on this new one.

Heh, I ordered my new Imac on the 20th...and Fedex is stating delivery by May 30th...It just updated a few moments ago, and it took 3 days to go 362 miles:eek: It only needs 1095 miles left to get to me...:(

I just received an email from Apple saying that my iMac has left their building and is now on the road via Purolator. It said it would ship on the 28-29, but it's the 27. That's one day early. :D

Hopefully I'll get it by Friday then. My delivery time is 2-5 days, Friday would be three days.

You hope it shows up early, as it did for me. Mine was schedule to arrive anytime from the 28-30. It showed up on the 24th. I was very pleasantly surprised.

I would recommend that you get a hold of two 2GB modules to install in your machine. I hope you didn't get the expensive Apple RAM upgrade, but if you did, it's already decided.

If you buy the RAM separate, you save money (it's cheaper than the upgrade price on their website), AND you get to keep the original 1GB modules that come in the system. So, you could use that 1GBs in a different system, sell them, give 'em to a friend, or experiment on your dog. Whatever you want.

Find a great wallpaper that will fit your new huge iMac screen (huge to me, cause I came from using an iBook/MacBook to an iMac). The screen on this baby makes me feel like a small man :D.

Also, rearrange your desk/computer room in preparation for the machine. If you have been using laptops prior to this iMac, get your laptop away from the desk and use it like it's a real laptop... in your lap on the sofa! Prepare that desk by buying new fancy lamps, cleaning, rearranging items, etc.

Also, read every little bit of propaga... I mean information on the Apple website about your new upcoming machine. Go on GeekBench and compare iMac scores to your current machine.

Refuse to consume anything with processed sugar until the iMac arrives. Do whatever you want, man! :p

Yeah the first iMac I ordered arrived a few days earlier. I enjoyed that. :)

About the RAM, I work at a computer store, so I'm just buying some sticks-o-ram from my work.

I used to own an iMac, then I sold it for a MacBook, and now I sold the MacBook for the iMac again. It will feel REALLY huge for me. I already have a sexy wallpaper downloaded in preparation.

It's funny how I've done everything you listed so far, practically exactly as you explained it.

My desk has been rearranged, and I bought two lamps from IKEA. Very modern and nice. I also bought a small fishbowl wish a single goldfish.

And once again, I've been visiting Apple.ca for constantly since yesterday, and have read each bit of info multiple times.

I loved your post by the way. The way it was written was quite a lot nicer than most forum posts, almost artistic like, haha.

I'm a very recent convert to iMac and am enjoying the experience. I bought the 24" model with the recently updated spec.

There are two things which I don't like: the horrible, discordant noise the system makes just after power on. Sounds like someone dropped a badly tuned piano off a first floor balcony onto a concrete patio! :(

The other is that the mouse pointer starts in the top left-hand corner of the screen. Why not in the middle where its more use for selecting who's loggin on?

Apart from that I'm not sorry to say good-bye to Uncle Bill's bloatware. :)

Just install this little pice of software to mute your Mac at startup: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23141

I think he's talking about a hardware sound when you start up the iMac. I have the same on mine. Little disconcerting at first but I got used to it now. The sound is almost a crunching sound. I say almost, its hard to describe. I think its either the sound of the fan or the harddrive spinning up.

Nope. It's the CD drive.

Thanks Detektiv-Pinky, that has done the trick. I really disliked that sound, it offended my musical ear! I can hear the other noises that the other members mentioned but they are way down in the background and don't worry me.

Now all I need is a patch to start the mouse pointer in the middle of the screen rather than having to drag it 12" before I can log in and my petty niggles will be gone.

Thanks again.

If your Goldfish dies buy a beta.

What are the recommended 2 GB RAM upgrades for iMac 20? Other than buying from Apple website?
Tnx
