Just bought my first Mac(a mini) from Apple Store!

After long waits of a possible refresh, I just said forget it, Im buying one! This thing is amazing!!!! How do things load up so fast? It honestly doesn't take a second to load up Safari. I can't even imagine how much faster an iMac or Mac Pro can possibly be. This is my first Mac ever and it costed $652 after tax at the Apple Store in Buffalo, NY. Its a little hard getting used to Finder vs. my computer. I hooked up my Xbox Live camera and Photo Booth is so cool! The software in this is amazing and the speed couldn't be better. Not to mention that the machine is so tiny that my parents thought it was just a separate dvd burner for the actual computer! I finally switched to Mac, and I couldn't be happier . Thanks for all the support here on my decision and thank you Apple for such an amazing product and OS.

I joined the club the same way, albeit 5 weeks before they ditched the G4 and went to the Core Solo/Duo. Ouch.

Things load up so fast because, among other things, Apple doesn't use any bargain basement products to cut price down so they can say they have a $400 computer. When you have a $400 computer, there's going to be some part inside that's not up to snuff. Remember the Celeron processor? They gutted the L2 cache out of that thing to cut cost. Quite a dumb piece of engineering.

Other speed issues include the lack of all that crappy bloatware you have to run just to not have a totally infected PC. Do a CTRL-ALT-DEL on your PC and check how much memory is taken up just by stuff running in the background. I have also been told that Mac OS X is just made to run faster than Vista, but I couldn't back that up with any evidence.

I don't know how fast the new iMacs or Mac Pros are, but I have a MacBook Pro that screams. It cost a pretty penny, but it's worth it for the high-power/portability combo.

Finder is definitely different, but I realized that's because it's so darn simple. Your drives are all listed on the left without stupid, confusing letters. The other folders are about as darn simple as you get: Applications, Documents, Images, Music, Movies. Hard to not know what's in there. The lack of all those crazy .dll and .dat and .!%! files is so nice when you talk about applications. A lot of them are literally one file. I'm also pretty sure that most can be deleted by just dragging and dropping the folder into the Trash Bin; no more "Add/Remove Programs."

I started with a mini, but returned it to Amazon and got a 17" C2D 2.0 white iMac in late 2006. Never looked back. Always scheming and rationalizing about how to add another apple product. So far I'm up to the imac, an ipod touch, an ipod nano, aiport extreme (for the office), airport express (for the road). I can't decide which laptop I'm going to buy, but a macbook is next. Probably get the air since I travel so much.

Congrats! My first Mac was a 1.42GHz G4 mini (only a few days after they were announced), and I was hooked for life; I was amazed when I simply turned it on and it booted, no fuss, no muss, no fighting with drivers, it simply worked. I have since owned a Powerbook, several iMacs, and my Macbook. I am playing around with dual booting XP on my Macbook, but it is only for the occasional game. The 2 things that struck me the most were 1) silence(!) and 2) no more constant Windows housekeeping/antivirus/reinstalling. It has been the best computing move I have ever made.

Haha, welcome to the club. When I finially convinced my parents to switch when I came home for three days over Christmas, they chose an iMac. When we got it home, they were yelling at me because they thought that they had just paid $1800 for a big monitor. Needless to say, I haven't heard a peep of complaint since then. Enjoy your new mac.

Finder kind of sucks quite frankly. Try to get used to using Spotlight if you can get used to it. Cmd+Space I believe. Gets you to what you want much faster then clunky old finder, in my opinion.

Congrats on your conversion! I don't regret getting my imac. It is still amazing after having it for over a year. My husband didn't like the idea at first but now he wants a macbook. My daughter when she can is going to get an imac also. I have yet to convert my son (lives in GA and I am in SC). When my sister moves down here she is going to get a computer. Guess where I am taking her to? lol Yep the apple store! Hopefully by then our new store will be open on King St.
