Just bought on ebay

A Mac Mini 2.0GHz IntelCore dual and I am told it's a bargain. It's in top condition, all discs, manuals and boxes complete and upgraded to OS7. However trying to migrate from my old G4 PowerMac has proved impossible in any way we tried to do it and in the end we manually copied across and that seems to have worked OK. We found in a Mac forum somewhere that the Migration system is flawed anyway. Firewire cable 800/400 or vice versa didn't work either. Upgrading from OS10.4 to 5 wasn't possible either.


Now getting used to Safari as I used Firefox previously and happy so far, also the Mail, where I used Entourage previously. That's certainly different (especially for my slow learner wife) and I don't know how to migrate my email addys, probably not possible, so I guess I will have to rebuild my address book.

I can't find IMovie on it, where is the best free download recommended please?

iMovie should be located in the grey discs that came with your computer. You can call Apple and ask for replacement discs if you have lost them, or you can buy new iLife from Apple. However, there is no legal way to get it for free from the Internet.

You mentioned the disks coming with it..disk #2 of the set contains the iLife suite (iMovie, iPhoto, iWeb, etc...)

I didn't have any problems migrating from 10.5 PPC to 10.7 Intel. Migrating from 10.4 may indeed be more difficult. I also didn't have any problems upgrading from 10.4 PPC to 10.5 PPC on my old machine, but then, it was a Quicksilver 2002 with an Adaptec Firewire/USB2 card. Sounds like you had something older.

One key tip on getting the migration to work, clone your system to an external drive first, and then use that clone for the migration. Doing a drive to machine migration tends to work better than a machine to machine migration.

The migration is not necessary now - I think and the IMovie question is on the back burner until I get everything else sorted.
