Just Calibrated my Monitor - WOW!

I just bought and used an Eye-one monitor calibrator, and wow! what a difference it makes! Photos really pop now. If you are at all serious about digital photos, go buy one of these things right now.

Any time I try to calibrate my monitor, it turns out exactly the same... except usually with a blue tint.

Looks really usefull.
But 169 dollars. Thats a rahter expensive device.
How often would you have do recalibrate?
Or do you use it once and you are set for a couple of years.

Is the calibration software that comes on the mac not good enough?
What are the differences you have experienced after using this?

1. Yes, it is expensive. I actually share mine with a few other people, we split the cost of it (not sure if that's legal or not, but mods please don't crucify me)
2. The software suggests recalibrating once or twice a month in case anything changes, but I can't see it making a huge difference.
3. I have no complaints about the mac software. As most graphic design is done on macs, they actually did a pretty good job.
4. Overall, colors just "pop" more. before, photos of bright colors and any outdoor photos just didn't look real, it looked like there was a slight haze to them. Now, that's calibrated away and everything looks great.

I was actually considering doing what you did. Buy one and share it with a couple of friends. (only 1 or 2, i swear)
I used to be a graphic designer and I still like to think I am.
My apple Studio 21 display used to have great and accurate colors but I seem to have problems with my flatpanel.
I bought an Eizo screen. They have a very good "color management" reputation, but I am not totally satisfied.
I might actually buy one of these professionnal calibrators.
