Just curious, should I get a MBA?

This is what my MB is. I know I want the 11.6 so I am just curious as this MB takes care of all of my needs right now that even the base 11.6 be that and more? I mean more as in itll be faster? I am not by any means a tech savvy which is why I posted this. But I have been wanting something lighter to lug around. This MB as you all know is heavy. Thanks for any input as I just found out how to look up this stuff about my laptop I have now.

Hi Bolsen78, I've seen you've been posting in a few forums and may have gotten some answers.

I think that you have a good Mac machine. The stats above are decent. If you don't need to upgrade or change due to a lack of something, then you probably have no need to change. The new MBA 11 or 13 are relatively similar (pros and cons on both sides but still pretty similar).

WANT however is a different story. To me, I've wanted a smaller form factor and was willing to sacrifice some performance (as the 11 inch are not as fast).

There must be a reason to switch (more so then just specs). If there isn't, you probably should stay with your MB. If you've been craving something that you MB doesn't have like Uni-body aluminum, smaller form factor, better weight, energy savings, etc... Then you might seriously consider is it worth shelling out the money right now. Do I have the money for it. Do I have to sell my MB first or will i regret the cost. Ask youself.

If money is no issue, then ask if you can wait till June next year? If you can, chances are a new version will come out then...8mths is the approx cycle.

Since I've been craving this version since 2008, I am willing to give up some trade offs of having a MBA and MBP for this 11 incher. Hope this helps.

Yes it does help. I was in the market for something that does the same as my MB but wouldnt be as heavy as the MB. I lug it around a lot for college and other things. I am not trying to replace the MB but to replace the Dell mini that I have that I usually lug around but not since I have had to fix it 4 times. So now it has been sitting and collecting dust pretty much. I do have the money to get one now. I was going to get the MBP at first until I checked out the Macbook air forums. I was going to go with either or but then realized the MBP isnt much lighter than what I have now. Im a tiny female so lugging the MB is very heavy for me. Im 85lbs so yes it does get heavy after a while for me. That is why I started looking because I do have the money but want to make sure that I am getting something lighter will it do some of the stuff mine is capable of doing now. This way I can keep my MB at home instead of carrying it all day. So does that help at all with what you are asking?

the ssd will allow you instant on and zippy loading times. you'll notice a difference.

If money is no problem, buy it. The truth is, you can sell your MB on eBay for probably $650 or so... for $350 you can get a screaming fast MBA. The NAND Flash is going to make it really fast for "normal" usage. What I mean by normal is startup, app opening, large file access, multitasking file movement/opening, instant on, and etc...

The new MBAs have the tech first that's going to make its way to the MB, MBP, Mm, iMac, and MP. Since you have the old tech, you might want to sell before those get updated and the value of yours drops tremendously. I have seen it happen with every update of the MBA. The others will be the same this time if they all get NAND Flash, instant on, and other software improvements coming on Lion too.

BTW what year was your MacBook made?

I believe it purchased this a few years ago. Or almost a few years ago. I do not use the optical drive I cannot remember the last time I did. Im not worried about the ports. The only USB port I am using right now is for my Iphone and the charger to charge my MB (not USB port but just saying). The only time I have used the other USB port was for the SanDisk for a college course. Other than that thats about all I use on this. Mostly for online classes, web browsing, sometimes youtube, yahoo messenger and my emails every so often unless I answer my emails on my Iphone. Oh and facebook. But that is all I use on this MB that I have now. Besides lugging it every where with me. I broke my back twice so yes it is hard sometimes. But the MBP isnt much lighter than this is. Unless Apple lied to me!!

Forgot to add that I have photos and music (Itunes) but I do not do any editing of photos or video editing either.

In all honesty, just see how you like the 11.6" screen in store and then decide. If you are set on getting a MBA, which is looks like you are, then just decide on the screen you want. From what it looks like, it should be able to do everything you want/expect it to.
