so if you are to believe the likely rumors, that the i9 is $800 with a 6.1inch screen, an X is $900, and an X-Plus is $1000.

Then everyone who is use to the normal sized, i6, i7, i8, and wants to continue with that form factor will have to opt for an Xs which will cost $900.

What a price jump that is for them. Doesnt seem like there will be a mid-sized i9 for them.

????

My 64GB iPhone 5 ran around $900. My 128GB 6+ ran around $900. My current 128GB iPhone 6s+ ran around $900.

No change here, unless you're meaning the base capacity (which I never get) is the starting point.

Or get yourself an iPhone 8 at reasonable price today and roll with it for a few years.

If you believe the rumors that the SE 2 will exist and will have a larger screen, there’s your affordable, mid-sized phone.

There was clearly a raise in price from model to model.

My iPhone 5 was 679€ retail, my iPhone 5S was 699€ retail, iPhone 6 also started at 699 € . Now the iPhone 8 starts at 799€ and the LATEST top model (X) almost double that. Not sure why the X costs 240€ more than the 8+. 100€ more would have been enough

That’s not the part I was talking about. Of course the SE2 will be the least expensive iPhone.

There’s even if an iPhone SE 2will ever exist to begin with. There are so many conflicting rumors at this point, we don’t know that Apple will refresh it or not, unless the iPhone SE was a one time offering. Regardless, the new ‘entry’ level iPhone will likely be the 6.1 LCD model. And of course the iPhone 8 will likely be discounted for those who want something that still retains touch ID.

More new technology equaled more R&D costs going into the X. Not sure with some of that being recouped we will see a lower price point on new X's.

From what I have read Apple usually sells their smartphones at 2.5 times cost, on average.

Apple is currently selling certified refurbished iPhone 7's with 32GB of storage for US$499 on its Web site right now.

I'm sorry you can't get the latest and greatest iPhone for what you consider an affordable price. But it is unfair to say that Apple no longer offers an affordable mid-sized phone.

Apple currently sells iPhones ranging in price from US$349 to US $1,149 on its own Web site. In the United States, I've seen some carriers offer 32GB iPhone SE's for as little as US$139. These days Apple offers an iPhone model to fit practically every budget.

I’m pretty sure a major reason is Samsung OLED cost a lot more which is why they are heavily investing in LG.

I don’t believe that’s exactly accurate why Apple is investing “heavily” into LG. They still have a contract with Samsung I believe until 2018/ (Maybe) 2019 for the 5.8 OLED display.

LG is rumored to be manufacturing the 6.5 OLED display also.

According to today's report, LG Display will supply Apple with the 6.5-inch OLED panels, while Samsung will supply the 5.8-inch or 6-inch OLED panels. “

“Apple would have to wait until at least next year before it could move beyond Samsung for significant supplies of OLED panels. However, Wednesday's report suggests LG could secure its position as the number two supplier of OLED screens for Apple's iPhones as early as the second half of 2018. LG is said to be planning to mass-produce the panels for Apple.”

However, analysts at investment firm Susquehanna estimate that LG will supply as much as 20 percent of OLED displays for the 2018 lineup. “
