I don't know why nobody talks about this, it's like the single best non-stock app I would have on my phone, if I could only have one app download.
People say a lot of crap about how iPhone is "just a toy", well someone please show me an app like Workflow on Android, that doesn't require literally typing in scripts with a keyboard? Because you know, maybe I don't want to be typing up scripts on my phone but I still want some of those functionality?

I have heard of IFTTT but I really don't care about that stuff because it mainly does those social media stuff I don't do.

But Workflow, it's just perfect. It is the perfect balance between power (Assembly compiler, building native apps), and ease of use (download an app for it). It is made by Apple so you know it has the best performance, compatibility, reliability, design and attention to detail. This app alone makes any supposed iPhone "tax/premium/over-pricing" worth it, not that there even is one. What I'm trying to say is if there is an iPhone X for $599 but can't use Workflow. I will buy the $1000 version that can use Workflow, or at least a classic iPhone if I'm running tight.

I've been looking for an app that can resize images on iPhone, I have Affinity Photo on iPad which is obviously great but doesn't work on the iPhone. I even bought Pixelmator for it, but then I read somewhere about "workflow", didn't even pay much attention, I just thought oh the icon looks cool, I should take a look. I open AppStore, I see it's made by Apple, I was like WTF? I never knew about this, I downloaded it and I was BLOWN AWAY by what it can do.

Still, some minor complaints. It's kind of annoying that the workflows are two levels under the share menu, you have to tap share, tap workflows, and then tap a workflow, that's kind of slow.
Also the extension API in iOS probably has some kind of limitations on memory use or something, it doesn't work with larger images, makes the whole thing crash. If you resize images to more than about 2560 pixels you have to run the workflow within the workflow app or it will crash. If the images is more than ~8mb it won't open from share at all unless in the native gallery app.

I am sure an Android implementation will have fewer of these limitations. But nobody cares because Android doesn't have Apple to develop these kick-ass first party software. There is just Google, they do decent apps, and then a bunch of clowns doing crap bloatware.

Workflow is pretty cool. I was hoping I could use it to make a “button” I could press that would play the latest versions of three podcasts I listen to in the morning, but it doesn’t appear to interface with the native Podcast app at all (and I really don’t want to switch to the podcast app that it does support).

Some of IFTTT’s magic is that any company can make an interface between it and their products. So in terms of making “home automation” devices even smarter (or have them connect to other devices they can’t natively speak to), IFTTT is pretty freaking amazing. I get that’s not what you’re looking to do, but just wanted to say IFTTT does a ton more than social media stuff.

Just FYI, it was a third party app until Apple bought it this year.
No wonder I have never heard of it.

I like to find wallpapers on some specialized sites but many of their images are so extremely high res it just wastes space. I made a workflow that resize the image and converts into HEIC, now full resolution wallpapers at 3000 pixel high are less than a megabyte each, it’s so great. It also places them all in one album so I don’t even have to organize them manually.

I started playing with this yesterday after reading this thread, and it so so cool! My problem now is that I don’t have enough ideas for things to automate.

You do need to have some ideas of how programming works. Things like if conditions, repeat, variables and data types.

However, it's FREE so it doesn't hurt to try.

Just made a workflow for placing frames on screenshots. No longer need one of those apps for this!

Here's the workflow and the frame files. The images need to go under the Drive/Workflow/ folder to work.

Every time I look into this app the workflows they offer are already native in some of the apps they are designed for. The rest of the workflows I haven't seen a "need" for.

I’ve made a couple super simple things, like quick FaceTime my daughter and then also a couple things to automatically create a text every day. And then one work email I send everyday, so that it’s pulling the information right out of my calendar and I don’t have to do anything. There, I just did it for today. :) One second.

Yes but I rather have one app than a bunch of apps that I don't use all that often.
With more apps you deal with more ads, more updates, more ugly icons, more ugly interfaces etc.

I made a very simple workflow that copies images without their meta tags. Very useful for stripping location data out of images before posting them to sites / forums. Call me paranoid but I don’t want to advertise where I keep my stuff.

Workflow is great for that although for things like quickly do a Facetime audio or video call I still use Launcher / Magic Launcher widgets in the Notifications Center / widget area, however Apple unfortunately crippled these widgets since iOS11. I still use iOS10 though so with some manual work I still get things working there as I want. See also the Launcher topic and this one.
