I dont really GET what palring was, but i read the description and thought it MIGHT be something i wanted to try, and heck - its free.

Anyways, When i set up the account and then went to the login page, i logged in and all of a sudden it said something like:
Palringo runs in the background of your iphone. Since you can not run two applications at one time, when you oopen another application, palring will quit.

well, THIS IS WEIRD..i THOUGHT they said NO APP can run in the background!! and if so, then WHY dont we have MMS yet? or other apps??

Also, what will that do to my battery?

You need to log in and click on the left icon on the top of your palringo home screen. Then, add in your msn accounts, yahoo, google, whatever accounts that you wanna add in. Click on the middle icon on the top of the palringo home screen and bingo...when you're logged in to all your services, you'll see you online contacts there. Tap on their name to send them a message.

iPhone doesn't allow any applications to run in the background. So, palringo will quit if you exit and go to the home screen.

Hope you;re not confused by my explanation.

nope. you message made PERFECT sense.. i'm not technologically stupid, it just REALLY was NOT obvious how to add an accout.. and their website is USELESS!! Really useless!! no FAQ or HOW TO or ANYTHING

so heres a question, i REALLY Only use AIM, how would this benefit me vs. just using AIM?? What does it do that AIM does not.. i read something about picture messaging..

no, AIM keeps you logged in even if you are not on the actual program.. It just pops up all the IMs while you were off the next time you open the app. It has nothing to do with push OR running in the background

AIM does queuing which keeps you logged on their servers (cause receiving, status, etc. are all done server-side) even after you quit the application. When you receive a message, AOL stores it until the next time you log on.

You then receive all the messages that people sent you while you were away from the program...apparently, AOL has decided to keep you logged on only for approximately fifteen minutes (MobileChat decided to keep you on for as long as you want until you tap the log out button).

Palringo does NOT do this, however.

As soon as you tap the home button, you are signed off.

What they meant by running in the background: Applications can run even when you go to the lock screen as long as the application is open. So while you're still in Palringo, if you press the power button, you will not be signed off.

Niiro, i dont think youre right about them speaking of it working only in the lock screen because they said the way to log yourself out was to open another app, not to return to the home screen..

So right now, the ONLY thing that is good about palringo that AIM does not have is the ADD IMAGE - but that still only works if sending to another iphone via IM and not to SMS..

DAMN IT!! I really want an mms app

oh yea, and i thought AIM changed that to leave you logged in all the time now?? Geeze, now i might have to download mobil chat instead..I just want to get the most out of an AIM client - or i can just wait till sept. for push

ohhh. ok..i gotcha! I guess the fact that there is no push makes using all the IM apps frustrating, but this PALRINGO is just stupid. I'm sorry, but i dont see the need for it - especially that you get logged out everytime you turn off... Also, it doesnt send text messages through the IM
