Just finished building my home subwoofers. Wicked!

18Hz baby! Anyway I'm very happy with the way they turned out. 10" Vifa woofers from about 12 years ago in just the right cabinet is giving me some very detailed, clean, deep and tight bass. Not boomy home theater type bass. Very nice bass that blends well with the main speakers.

Anyway I'm happy and want to share the results. If anyone wants to build their own or has questions, you can feel free to ask me. By the way,they are driven with a really cheap 125wpc amplifier by Nexxtech (also sold as Optimus, Pyle and Pyramid). Normally these brands are junk but surprisingly this amp had some good reviews online regarding its sound quality. Its really only 80wpc but bass is controlled and accurate. Cant ask more. Picked it up for $129 I have a dedicated electronic crossover at 47Hz.

Nice job, bud! The fact you made it adds another 10db to your s/n ratio, lowers THD by .1% and gives you 10 more Wrms! At least, it always does when I do.

My last enclosure (which is still going strong) I made last summer. Got sick of having no bass in my Golf, but I did NOT want a box b/c I NEED the hatch space. I saw a "stealth box" for my car - and once I saw the price tag (650 for the box - NO sub or amp included) I decided to get all home depot on things.

Scrap plywood, 3/8" threaded rod, some fender washers, wing nuts and some tape-backed foam stripping - and I've got one of the best setups I've ever heard. (I cut the plywood into 2 circles the same size as my spare, and bolted them through it - threw in a 12" sub - and it pounds. (accurate too) Best of all, I got my space AND a spare tire to boot. (pun intended)

I'm actually going to do this myself, got a pair sitting in the garage at the moment but have no idea where to start.

Did you know how to make them, or did you get a guide from somewhere? Because I believe the boxes have to be a certain size (depth/width etc).
I don't know how to find out what the dimensions need to be according to the subwoofers.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks for the comments guys I'm totally hyped and listening to all my music again. I cant believe some of the astonishingly deep bass in songs I had no idea had ANY bass. LOL

Project7, if you can, find the make and model of the woofers you have and I will contact you and give you some pointers Its fun to build your own. Also placement of speakers are critical as well. Even a great speaker can sound terrible if its not placed well - food for thought

Hi Project7,

Hmmm looking at the specs of that speaker, I'd say it will be tough to do a proper subwoofer. Will it be used for home or for a car? Would you be more insterested in turning it up loud or do you listen to your music are a more mellow volume?

I'd actually recommend the following.

Buy one of these 10" woofers

Place it in a 3 cubic foot enclosure and tune it to 25Hz. That would be approximately a 8" to 9" long 3" diameter port. I'd line the back, top, bottom and sides of the cabinet (inside) with some kind of sound dampening material. Fiberglass insulation works but there is a risk of fiberglass fibers getting into the woofers. Home depot should have specific material for sound dampening.

Oh and this amplifier looks to be great for the $$

That will give you the amp and crossover so you wont need seperates.

Love the setting, the painting its just perfect and it must sound amazing.....
