iPod Just found my original iPod click wheel 20gig!

I just had to wipe a small tear from eye. Oh how I love this device. It really did start my love affair with apple. I can remember all my friends telling me to buy a Creative device, how glad am I that didn't. I think I might give it a charge, load up some music and go for a nice long walk. Might even leave the iPhone at home. :p

Was wandering... What was everyone else's first iPod and how did you feel about it?

Oh yes it's still going strong. It's covered in dents, it's got a small crack on the screen and hold button is really loose. My 5 year old girl looked at it really confused when she kept pressing the screen and nothing was happening... Better not show her my old walkman :p
 
I'm impressed; it still plays music? Are your play-lists on this original iPod, or even the iTunes library, much different to what you use on later devices? Or is what you use now simply an expanded version of same?

They were terrific machines - but, and it was a big but - the HD used to crash completely on a small (but significant) minority of early iPods (happened to me twice.....)

Ah, the old Sony walkman......I never had one of those (not much into tapes, preferred vinyl) but my discman was another story altogether. Only problem was the sheer greed of the batteries; I always had to keep spares with me, and it was a bit of a hassle stocking up, and worse, having to remember to stock up; besides, one could only travel with a certain number of CDs on long bus or train journeys.......

Yes, iPods when they appeared were an absolute - very welcome and long overdue - godsend.......

My first iPod was a 512mb shuffle, which was given to me by my friend as i'd just moved from a PC to a Mac and my Sony HDD player wouldn't work.

It still works now, well not as a music player - I use it as an emergency linux boot disk!
 
Mine was the 5th Gen 30gb iPod, the ones that all had the colour screens.

It sits beside my monitor on my desk. I should charge it up and give it a whirl :)

I also have;

shuffle - use it to listen to music when snowboarding/longboarding
first gen touch - gf uses it for iOS games, has no music on it :p

And my current is my iPhone 3GS. Also have an iPad 2 on the way.

Was definitely what got me rolling with Apple, as I have a 13" MBP as well.


Interestingly enough, I was using iTunes itself for my pc music management since well before I had any of these products. Back in 2002 or 2003? When was it first released for PC?
 
Yes, I also have to admit that my ownership of iPods was what persuaded me to "switch" to the world of Apple.

It wasn't just the form factor, the size, style, or the sheer ease of use (and wonderful relevance to daily life), capacity, of the iPod that influenced me, it was also the impressive experience I had with Apple warranties when [two of] the iPods died. Upon production of the appropriate sales receipt, they were replaced more or less immediately without any attempt to seek refuge in contractual small-print.
 
mine was a 1st gen black 4gb nano. bought it for $250 a week before the 2nd gen came out. that piano black and shiny chrome case was worth it. sold it to a good friend a year later and she still has it to this day.
 
3rd Gen 20GB here, still going strong after 7 years and sounds as awesome as ever. Battery cried enough a couple of years ago so I replaced it.

I usually carry the iPhone around with me for music on the go, the iPod is usually attached to the HiFi in the living room nowadays on a remote dock.
 
I resisted iPods for a long time due to their popularity. I finally got my first one (a 5th gen 60gb) after my Cds were stolen out of my car. Still works perfectly today. Has outlasted the radio I got for my car to play it on.
 
And here I thought I had to get an SSD iPod out of concern that a hard-drive based unit wouldn't last as long.... do the miniature hard drives in the iPod Classic just have more endurance than the larger, bulkier ones used with computers?

My first iPod was a first Gen nano, I think it was whatever the highest capacity was at the time, I want to say 8gb but I'm not sure. I remember that design scratched incredibly easy, I liked it though.

I was very surprised myself to find it working, it actually took about 20 mins of charging before any life sprung into it.

Amazingly my music taste has changed very little over the years, just a few albums added but all my classics remaining.

Ahhh the disk man, my loyal friend until got into mp3s ( I had
a mp3 USB stick thing that could hold about two albums before my iPod) I loved that disk man, and yep the batteries where a pain. Mine used to skip a lot aswell on bumpy journeys. Still loved it all the same though. Guess things have come a long long way in the last decade or two.

You, me, and millions of others. This was, imho, Apple's launching point to its current success. The iPod opened up a Huge market audience for Apple, one they continue to exploit to their advantage- and ours.
 
I'm listening to my first iPod right now. It's a 20GB 3rd Gen Classic. I have it plugged into a sonic impact speaker system at work.

For music on the go, I have my iPhone 3GS. I also have a 60GB 5th gen and a 16GB 5th gen nano that get used periodically.
