I haven´t used it much because I cannot connect it to my internet router (fault of my ISP) but I can tell you this:

I bought it as a refurb, but this is a new computer. If it has been used, it is completely impossible to tell. My guess is that this unit was a part of the overstock of CD when the Macbooks got the CPU upgrade. I have no need for the C2D so I grabbed the 900 Euro Macbook. I ordered it on Thursday and received it to day from UPS. Good job on the delivery!

The Macbook looks nice, much better than other 900 Euro notebooks. In fact it doesn´t look low end at all! The build quality also looks solid and I haven´t detected any flex at all. The power connector is brilliant and implies that Apple has had its attention to details in the design.

I´m also impressed that when idle, the Macbook is totally silent, but I haven´t pumped it properly. I´m also very pleased with the keyboard and I even like it better than the Thinkpads´ones!

There is only one or two things I don´t like about this notebook. The screen quality really sucks, but I guess that there aren´t much better 13" panels out there. I knew this when I ordered the Macbook, so I´m not disappointed.

The thing that worries me is that even though the Macbook is idle, it gets quite warm at the bottom. I´m going to see how it performs when running at full speed and maybe replace the thermal paste with AS5, which I´m armed with.

All in all, I´m very happy with the Macbook and I highly recommend it based on my first impressions. Sure, it is not adequate for any 3D, but other than that, its perfect for my needs; sturdy, cheap, quite fast and portable....and it can handle both OSX and Windows.

Thanks.

I installed smcfancontrol and raised the min fan speed from 1500rpm to 4000rpm and the temps went to 42C from 52C. The Macbook is now more comfortable in my lap but the noise is still undetectable in my environment (in the living room with my family.)

I must say....this Macbook impresses me more the more I use it. :)

Watch out, fans burn out, and then your heatsinks have to do alot of work. This has happened to me on an nVidea video card, and a processor (noticed the processor though). Just the faster they spin, the quicker they die.

But the Core2 Duo is awesome eh? Less power, not as hot, and faster! I love mine.

Wait till Intel releases their quad core in a couple months!

Thanks for the warning.

I think the heat will definitely kill the whole computer while a fan replacement out of warranty, i.e. after a year, isn´t likely to be very expensive.

4000 might be a little high. I put mine on 2500-3000. Makes it a bit more comfortable on the lap. And if im pushing it...the machine will jump up to 5000-6000 anyway.

Just how bad is the display?

I'm looking to get a Macbook, and I mainly write code. I generally use a small font so I can get 2 editors windows side by side. If the quality just isn't there I'll have to abandon my Mac dreams and go with another brand.

It´s mainly bad when it comes to viewing angels and the color fidelity is normal for a laptop, i.e. bad. I can read small fonts so I don´t think it is problem. If the resolution is high enough for your needs, then you probably wont have more problems with the Macbook display than with other brands.

I code like a madman; the Macbook is peachy for it. An external display and lots of RAM helps alot too.
