I installed the iOS 9 GM on Monday, ahead of the actual release.

Today, I got a notification that iOS 9 is ready to install.

Isn't the GM already the same version though?? What gives?

Maybe, maybe not.

Either way possibly has a different build number or perhaps has debug symbols/code turned off.

There was an update from the GM when the public release came out on Wednesday.

The public release has a slightly newer build number than the GM, so that's why you're being prompted to update.

The GM wasn't the final release this year. You should probably update to the final version.

The GM was either build 13A340 or 13A341 depending on device. The final version is build 13A344. You can verify under Settings/General/About.
Definitely run the update if you're on 340 or 341.

I see... Didn't realize that since it's usually the same. Guess I'll go ahead and do the update!

Thanks guys.

Does anyone know the difference between the GM and the new update?
There's a thread from the day that the released version came out that was trying to establish the differences. Can't quite recall if anything in particular was found.
