I just got this ipad 3 from a trash and i think the screen is also broken is this yellow thing is from the lcd ?

Can be a good project to learn how to repair a screen or whatnot. ?

As to the OP, yeah that looks like the backlight shield or similar as the glass and LCD looks to have been knocked out. A new screen is needed.

Not worth replacing the screen as the iPad 3 is completely obsolete. Put it back in the bin or take to your local recycling centre.

Take to recycling bin/centre as mentioned, if you dont happen to get ahold of free-ish replacement screen from another iPad.

iPad 4th gen was just made obsolete by Apple and it was a much better device than the 3rd gen so I'd say it really isn't cost effective to replace the screen since it's not worth much.. Recycle it, you can turn it in to Apple at no cost

I think Apple would agree. In fact, I think they agreed the year it came out, because it was only a thing for about 9 months. Probably the worst iPad I ever owned too--ran really hot and was not keeping up with that retina display very well.
