Hi,

just got my iMac 24 2.93 4GB-1066 1TB 4850 512, but three issues I'd like to get some advice on.

(1) First a dead pixel. Not stuck, not sub-pixel. A really dead pixel. What to do? Will Apple fix it? (Bought it from Apple Store) Will I risk 5 refurbs, 3 units with another dead pixels, and many cynical phone calls?

(2) My Mighty Mouse is wireless. I know the jumping issue, but I got another wireless mighty mouse, which has been alright for almost two years on the exact same surface. What's going on?

(3) The 1TB ST is REALLY ABNORMALLY noisy. When not seeking, just spinning, I can easily hear it. It is as noisy as an MBA when its fan hits ~6000-6600 rpm. Not joking..

I'm really stuck up. I desperately need it for college, as I do all my writing (that's al lot in my case) on it. I can't live without, but with the current state, I can live with it either.

Well I think Apple has a policy where you need at least 7 dead pixels to able for a return. I am not sure if they enforce it though.

The mighty mouse might need to be broken in. Just give it some time or try experimenting with different pads.

No. You have 14 days to return it and Apple won't even ask why. 7 pixels is repair policy, they won't fix it for free unless you have 7 or more dead pixels. As for mouse, call Apple and ask for new one or go to store.

Thanks! I returned it under the default policy. They'll call me in 2 days, pick it up, and the refund will occur 5-7 days afterwards. Thanks very much!

Why did you want a refund rather than replacement? Possibility that next one will have it is so small.

For that, there are three reasons:
  1. Apple Support told me that I was allowed only to swap once because they find it completely normal to have up to 7 pixels completely dead.
  2. I read numerous articles and forum posts about people who got an endless amount of refurbs through Apple Care. They say you'll get a new one, but then it's a refurb. You call them and they say that should've never occurred and the next one is yet another refurb.
  3. I read a lot about display issues in the iMac since my issue, and my retailer and Apple Support find display issues normal, whilst I find it uttermost ridiculous now that the technology is almost 10 years old, so I'll consider another option, like a MBP + ACD.
