Perfect machine. Are the lines there? Yeah...but far less than any I saw in about 3 apple stores over the course of a few months of being in and out of them. I literally have to be a quarter of an inch away to see them, and I have perfect 20/20 vision. I really lucked out. This is my first mac and I'm never going back...I can already tell!!

Can't Complain Either

I got my 15" powerbook almost a year ago right when the 1.67 ghz model came out and it's been almost flawless as well. I don't notice lines, although my vision is 20/40 with difficulty. The only major problem is that when I plug external speakers into the notebook, I can only hear music out of one speaker. This has happened on different pairs of speakers so it's definitely the powerbook. Any suggestions?

Besides that I can't complain. Switching to mac has been one of the greatest things ever! I hope they just keep getting better with Intel. Thinner, longer battery, and faster (hopefully). I can't wait!

I have ONE stuck pixel right down by the bottom icon bar. Any way to fix this?

First of all, check your system preferences Sound settings to make sure your output balance is on center.
If that checks out O.K.,Try a set of known good heaphones.
If you're getting sound in both sides, then it's your speaker cable.
If you're not getting sound in both sides of the headphones,
then you may have a bad audio output jack.
Those mini jacks are quite fragile, so it may have broken from repeated use.

Hi! If you have a stuck pixel it's worth calling Apple, although they believe that one bad pixel is not too bad. I had a stuck pixel and a croaking (right word? I'm not a native speaker...) on my new iBook and I told them on the phone how annoying this pixel was. They checked the notebook and declared it DOA (Dead on Arrival). I got a new one which doesn't have any stuck pixel. :) Apple's service was really great!
Furthermore, there are some claimed ways to fix a dead pixel. In my case, they didn't work.

Sick. Thanks a lot. Why did my output balance get moved all the way to the left speaker? I definitely didn't do that. Well, now there are no problems with my mac!

I got mine about 2 weeks ago and I've loved it. I do have the annoying horizontal lines, but are very faint and hard to see. I'm returning it to Amazon because I have a dead pixel, possibly 2, mostly visible when running the flurry screen saver.
I might wait 'till Jan' 10 and see what happens. I might get another one.
Enjoy :)

Congrats on your 15"... though the display may not be perfect, it does the job just fine. If I never ran across these blogs, i would've never known nor cared.

great machine. those mactel machines... it's gonna need at least a year or two to properly sort itself out.
