Just got my 17" MBP C2D!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a first time Mac User and this is the most amazing, stunning, exceptional, beautiful, incredible, unbelievable, sexy and whatever adjective you can think of machine I've ever seen. The screen is AWESOME!!!! I'm typing on it right now! No uneven backlighting, bleeding, or color banding that other people have complained about. I LOVE IT! No wine, no obsurd noises, no heat! It's perfect and I've never been happier with a purchase. Now, on to my question. Is there a way to maximize a window with one click or do you just have to drag it to take up the screen?


P.S. I have the glossy screen, and its great! Yippee! I love Mac!

The green button zooms the window to fit the content. If it doesn't need to be full-screen it won't make it full screen.

It's a more efficient way to multi-task and enables the full gamut of the drag-and-drop simplicity of OSX. You can have a Word document open and a Safari window open, side by side and drag stuff between them whilst being able to view both at the same time. Even on my little iBook the lack of a maximised browser window means I can see my browser, IM client and have room to drag images and stuff to the desktop all at the same time.

It's one of those things you have to get used to - I can't work now with a browser window taking up the whole screen on the odd occasion I need to use a Windows machine.

It's just a different philosophy, making OSX work "just like Windows" is the wrong way to go about things, you should learn how this OS works rather than trying to make it work like a different OS.

Regarding maximizing windows, you are correct in saying you'll need to drag a window if you want it to take up more space than 'necessary', otherwise the 'maximize' button makes the window large enough to display all of the content, but not fill the screen.

Thanks a lot guys. It now makes a lot of sense once you put it in perspective. Mac OS X makes it much easier for you to multi task without minimizing and maximizing windows constantly. Sorry, I didn't realize this at first. I'm still a little hypnotized by Windows and Mac is slowly bringing me back to reality. Again, I love Mac!!!!

if you really want/need full screen go to this link and then drag the full screen link to your book marks tool bar, it works when you click on it. But you'll probably get used to the non maximized screen anyways. I did after my switch from pc to mac, i realized that you really dont need it to be fullscreen. It actually works when using any browser.

I've had my 17" MBP for almost a month now and I'm just loving it, especially with the house having wireless networking. I recommend getting the David Pogue Switching to Mac book to help with the transition. I can hardly wait to go home from work in the evenings to keep working on my iMovie project. The software and the video that it's producing are really impressive.

The bloom is off the rose, however. The MBP has crashed applications and screwed up in other ways a few times but it sounds like others have had some of these issues, so hopefully there will be fixes coming soon. Still, I hardly ever use my Windows PC since I've gotten the MBP.
