just got my 23" acd

i just got my 23" acd from the states, its voltage is 90w, in the UK, its 240. i just put the lead from the power adaptor into a plug converter, and a few sparks went off. the montior wasnt plugged in at this stage. any1 advise? can i buy a new power supply for it here?
