Just got my 4GB kit! But there's a problem...

In my move in to University, I neglected to pack any sort of tools. Sooo, I don't have the required screwdriver to install the RAM. I even tried using the little tool that comes with a tech deck, but I was only able to remove 1 of the 4 screws, they are in there quite tightly. So yeah, I'm depressed.:( Am I the only person stupid enough f or this to happen to?:p
 
It sucks, but definitely wait until you can get your hands on the proper tools. If you strip those screws (which is easy to do), you're hosed.

Ah. I always carry a swiss arm knife wherever I go. Never know when you need it.

Have you tried... Asking a few of the thousand other people in campus if they have a screwdriver? I'm sure theres some sort of stationary store in your uni to buy some tools from :eek:
 
The main problem is that it's just about midnight.:p I can go tomorrow though. And it was you who I bought it from CanadaRAM! :p

Try Mac's 24 hours or 7-11 if you're desperate to install tonight ;)

One thing though don't try to use too big of a screwdriver, because if you ream out the heads of those screws, you be really... drivered.

Maybe we should offer spare tools as an option? :)
 
Try a larger kitchen knife. If you angle it properly and make sure not to scrape the sides, you'll be fine. Just take it slowly - they're not in that tight.

It is way too smart to wait til you got the Right Tools to fix it RIGHT!! It's a Freakin' $2000.- $3000. machine... Can't you wait 12 hours to get the Screwdriver you need???!! :eek:

I have been impatient to do things in my time, but if you *&!^!% it up well enough you are really gonna hate yourself.... Just imagine you saw a Tech doing what you are considering doing to it... Would you TRUST your machine in those hands again?? :confused:

Seems Small Minded to Mess Up a Fine Machine w/ inferior tools; and a Simple Solution to me... Please wait and GET THE TOOLS!! I'm sure it will be worth it a few hours after... :cool:
 
CanadaRAM: I think including a proper screwdriver would be a brilliant idea. It'd only cost the consumer another dollar or two, right, and on top of a 300$ purchase, that's nothing.:p
 
It might not be much on top of the 300 dollars for the RAM, but if your price is a dollar more than the next guy's then a significant number of consumers will just default to buying from the next guy. Its not about making things as cheap as possible so people will buy them, its about making them cheaper than the next guy's so they will buy them from you.

I really, really, REALLY have to agree with bobcan on this one. For one thing, I believe they use a tiny drop of LocTite on those screws. Secondly, stripping them is way too easy to do because of their size. Most importantly, impatience can do some real damage, and I have first-hand experience on that, even recently. My black MacBook's space bar was squeaking horribly and just driving me crazy. Impatient to fix it without having to take it in, I popped the key off and accidentally broke the seal on that stupid little piece of rubber (silicone, whatever) under there. Now it's hosed, the space bar doesn't work at all, for some reason the trackpad now only works intermittently, and the warranty obviously won't cover the repair because it's accidental damage and I'm responsible. I have no idea how much it will cost now for such a simple repair that my dumb ass should have just had the sense to wait on.
