Hey guys. I'm new here and new to iPhones. My iPhone is brand new and I havent put anything on it yet. Is it best to jailbreak it now? The only reason I want to jailbreak my phone is so i can put my own custom sounds for new messages and such on it. I know that might not seem worth it to you guys, but I like my phones as custom to me as i can. haha. Anyways. I'm not entirely sure how this jailbreaking process goes. I've read some tutorials but like I said, I'm a complete noob to iphones and everything I've read is complete jibberish to me. So any help is greatly appreciated, and this seemed like the place to come to for help. I don't have a mac though. I have windows vista so I'm not sure if that's a problem or not. Also, a friend of mine said that if I jailbreak my phone then that voids any type of warrenty I have on it? is that true? I'm not planning to unlock it to other carriers or any of that tech savvy stuff. I just only want to be able to add my own sounds

Sorry if this seems like a stupid thread to make. But I'd really like some help. Thank youuu!

Could be best to spend a few days getting to know your iPhone first. Wait until you can make sense of the tutorials yourself, rather than rushing into it when you don't know what you are doing. Technically, jailbreaking does break your warranty, and although there are ways to get your phone back to a "fresh from factory" state before you send it back to Apple, if you are not familiar with the iPhone in an unjailbroken state, you won't know if any problems you may encounter are "real" problems or are due to being jailbroken.

Lots of answers to your questions are already covered here. Use MRoogle in my signature to search.

If Apple discovers your phone is JB, they will generally void your warranty.

If you have a Mac, you can use Garage Band to make any ringtones you'd like.

I'd also say to play with the phone for a while first. But don't take any new updates until you decide if you really want to jailbreak. New updates tend to make iPhones unable to jailbreak until some of the DevTeam and other gurus figure it out. I would guess that it is getting more and more difficult and may ultimately result in the inability to jailbreak.

Right now, you can jailbreak. So as long as you don't update through iTunes, you can wait and see if you want it or not.
