Just got my Macbook, Need help with wireless

I jusst got my macbook.

I havea linksys compact wireless router. I know i works ecause my gf's computer can connect to it with WEP. However, I can't get mine to network.

When it asks for a WEP password is it the password that generates the key or the key?

It should be the key but obviously try both. If you're still having trouble then try putting a dollar sign ($) in front of the password.

One quick question, Is it better to shutdown/startup the macbook everytime or startup/sleep. Then shutdown when there won't be usage for a prolong amount of time.

No worries mate. There are some maintenance tasks runs by your machine every night at about 3:00AM (give or take a few hours). If you shut your computer down at these times, the tasks will not be run. If you sleep your machine instead, they will be run the next time your computer is awoken. So yeah, it's better to sleep your Mac rather than shut it down.
