Wow,

What a great machine... I haven't posted here in a while. My company just got me a new Dell that I need to use, etc etc. We just got a new family iMac and it's just such a pleasure to use. I'd say the only thing that's not the best is that Rosetta sucks (okay it doesn't suck, but it really kills the speed on an otherwise blazing computer) and the firefox universal binary boots rather slow.

All the iLife apps are much faster now, and it's just such a pleasure to play with this machine...

It's certainly going to be nice when more Universal applications come about, but until then it's all good.

Are you connecting to a home network using the Airport card? If so, does it all work ok/connect automatically/give decent speeds?

I've got a linksys router here that does 802.11g and wired network. At one point I had our old iMac hooked up to the wired network while I transferred photos to the new iMac using 802.11g, and it seemed to be just fine. That being said, I didn't do any official testing, and now it's hooked up on the wired network since it's slightly faster and the computer isn't going anywhere.

I would be to! I can't wait to get and intel mac, hopefully soon. The UB of Firefox booting slow isn't a surprise, it seems overbloated on my iBook. (But that may be because I have 5 homepages to load )

If you are having issues with the Firefox universal build (DeerPark 1.5.0.2), make sure you are booting it from your apps folder and not your desktop - or the dock, as long as the application is where it needs to be. Otherwise, it can be glitchy.

Just FYI, I have had very good success also with Camino 1.0rc1 on the intelmac.

Congratulations on your iMac! Great choice! The power will be unleashed better when all apps are running natively and developers get used to writing apps for this version of the OS.

Yah it's in the right place now. It's actually relatively snappy, it was just that first boot that was sloooooow.

Yah but I never use the official FF builds. There a few universals out there...

Yah totally. After being mildly frustrated w/ FF, I downloaded Camino, and it's really great. I really can't live w/ out my firefox extensions though!!!! But this should suit my nicely until the UB build gets a bit better.

I have no problems with rosetta running for photoshop and flash. Did you purchase the ram upgrade as I maxed out my system (2GB) for the 20" intel imac.

Camino runs fine as well but Safari runs much faster for loading..

And it's not even that rosetta apps are TERRIBLE... just that the system screams... and when those run, the system.. more like... yells...

I love how in a year the imac g5 has considerably gotten so much thinner and now even more so with the intel versions.

Congrats! pay attention to any odd noises, particularly a "pop" or "crack" in the next 15 days... i bought a 20 inch intel mac 2 months ago and it's at the apple store being checked out... read my thread

I'm sitting here on my brand new 17" and loving it.

Just had a friend knock at the door which led to a half hour photobooth session. Jobs was right... it's a major league time waster.

I thought about getting a 20", but the 17" seems huge to me after my 12" Powerbook (which replaced my noble old CRT iMac).

To d00ds that have tried both, are there any great performance between 1.83 and 2.0 GHz? I know you can get better VRAM for 20", but I think most people buy it for the larger screen...

I quite like the mighty mouse now.

I was going to replace it with my Logitech, but I'd have to buy USB overdrive I think.

I hated the MM when I tried it in the Apple Store, but I quite like it now. Hopeless for WoW, but good for general use I think.
