Got my iphone on launch day and from the start it had poor wifi and coverage. I finally bit the bullet and sent it back to apple. Got my replacement today...sory I sent my original back. Signal and wifi EXACTLY the same. Therefore its either crap hardware (very unlikely especially as the 3G had fine wifi), or software. Most likely software which is good and should hopefully improve in 3.1. The replacement is new but not a patch on my old one! The screen is definitely different... picks up loads of finger smudges etc very easily and also has a larger border around it. Also when I was applying the screen protector and looking closely the little boxes that make it up are more visiable. I wonder did apple abandon the oleophobic coating after the scratch reports? Also the bezel on the new one is raised on one side and is rough enough when you swipe it when swiping the screen. No big deal but anyway waste of time returning it.

1 replacement. Any as much as my superpowers have developed I cannot yet control wifi speeds. Getting 25% wifi performance and slow to the extent youtube wont stream is hardly ideal.

The point of my original post was that you started a thread questioning the sanity of other people who exchange their phones, then post here about your own exchange! Pot, kettle...

As for Wi-Fi, I doubt it's either hardware or the 3.0.1 firmware, as I get about 13.4 Mbps over Wi-Fi on my new 3GS with 3.0.1 (that's the typical maximum throughput on my 15Mbps cable internet connection). Perhaps the problem is your router.

My router deliveres 8Mbit to my macbook no prob. I wasnt complaining about the other things I couldnt care less. Just pointing them out. If anything I would say it serves me right for returning it. But on 3 different routers wifi speed was 25% of what it should be. I thought that was a bit much on such a high end phone.

Mine does the sane thing. I was going to wait until 3.1

Ya I should have done that too I guess. Rang applecare and they said to change it. Battery was crap on old one too.

What scratch reports? If anything, the oleophobic coating helps with the scratches. I haven't had a single one yet on my 3GS compared to my 3G which would have had several scratches by now.

I got a new replacement sent to me yesterday in a Black Box from Apple ( its got the picture of an iPhone on the front... and very slim. ) The 32gb 3GS was Brand New.

They received my old phone on Friday in California and shipped out a brand new one the next morning from Pennsylvania. So I definitely did not receive my old one back. Just a brand new one.

And the build quality on the new one? Perfect. No issues at all.

For the curious, my old one had touch screen issues.

What an insane comment.

HAHA, nicely said! Some people just can't believe that things aren't right with the iPhone that they go to a self-defense mode.

Yep, it's true... some people think the iPhone is a crapshoot.
