Good day everyone, If anyone remembers i had a thread about getting my macbooks palm rests replaced at the local apple replacemet place, not an apple store.
Apple stores dont like my town, in fact the nearest one is 4 hours away, so i had to go to the only (yes just one) place in my city that does apple repairs.

I bring in my macbook, and leave it with them for the replacement to occur. They have it a couple days, it was actually speedy service. but then i got it back. I love the new palm rests, and the new keyboard which feels softer and is quieter then before! however, the new palm rests seem to not be flush with the bottem case. I can see gaps of black, where they aren't touching the base case. All around base i can see it, black... Then the glue or something isnt holding it down and its bubbling up... I take it back right away. (Side note: my mum picked it up for me, without telling me, i was a little shocked that they gave the laptop to someone other then me without my consent!)

So i go back and they do a bit of work, and i wasnt happy still (OCD) so the tech is like "i will look for another macbook to compare" ad reachs down and pulls up a pile of junk, like screw drivers, HDD bays, papers, and under it all is a macbook they are currently working on.

The tech puts it on the counter and clears off all the crap, and i wanted to cry. The top case was scratched more then i thought was possible. When opened the palm rests were half on and off, and it seemed like it was being junked. the tech was so rough with it in showing me i wanted to grab my stuff an leave. In fact i left as fast as i could because every time they touched my macbook the techs hands were leaving dirt marks... :(

Basically the more they worked on the dirtier my macbook got..
I brought it home, and pressed it all down, and worked on it a bit myself and i fixed it to where i see fit...
I just thought i would share my story. Perhaps next time you get a mac repaired anywhere but an apple store you will opt to wait and watch the repair or have them take extra care...

Anyone else experience a repair horror story such as that?
The sad part is that unless i drive 4 hours thats the only place to get my macbook repaired at.

You could've avoided all this if you'd simply called Apple and had them send you a box. You put it in the box, you ship it off, and it comes back to your house fixed. It's like MAGIC!

On a side note, this is why Apple opened its own stores in the first place—any third-party Mac service center is very hit-or-miss.

that sounds terrible, you should call apple and complain to them to possibly do something about that place and their terrible service. I hate when techs are so rough with the things they should be fixing.

Nope i couldnt have avoided this..
i did call apple and specifically asked for a box for that reason, and they told me they only do that in the united states, in Canada they dont do it. I HAD to bring in to a certified apple repair center.

Still here.
I'd punch my own mother in the throat if she treated my laptop that way.

Not literally, of course, but that is just horrible. I hate when people don't understand that computer equipment is fragile and must be taken care of, and even worse when they don't stop to think that the cosmetic condition of our possessions matters to us. Not everyone is a keep-my-laptop-under-a-pile-of-crap-try-not-to-drop-it-or-scratch-it-up-too-bad Dell owner.

Some of us care, and personally, I wouldn't deal with a tech that didn't.

I doubt Apple will send a box if you ask for it.

In Australia at least, Apple does not have any retail or service presence outside of NSW, so the bulk of us generally have to depend on resalers to address our service needs. Each time I have a problem Apple also never offered a box, but instead point me to the closest service centre.

Isn't it also true that in the UK Apple stopped accepting mail-ins for service jobs as well?

Oh no, my mum didnt screw with my macbook, she just picked it up from the repair store without telling me. The shocking part was that the store gave it to her, what if she wasnt my mum?

It was the store repair tech that treated the other macbook that way, it was a mess, i was praying that they treated mine way better.. i turned it in with my case so i hope they left it in there did the repair then put it back..

Grrrrrrrrrr.. it just makes me mad thinking about all the things that could have happened to it while away..

You were clear the first time, I just meant that I would've gave that guy a piece of my mind for being so rough with something of mine. Especially something so fragile and valuable.

Which is only going to happen if you live in the US.

Take Denmark as en example, we have no Apple Stores at all! Not a single one.

Finally I have arrived.....
This is a terrible story. Note to myself: there is no Apple Store in Denmark.

If I were you, I would be hiring Johnnie Cockran to defend my insanity defense for (I don't have to spell this out), if he is still alive.

I live in Thailand and cringe to think of ever needing MacBook service here again. The details of the MacBook buried under parts and screwdrivers and random debris and looking scratched to oblivion...that's what certified Apple service is in Thailand...x3. I used to baby my 6 month old MB...now it looks 2 years old. Complaints have done nothing. I'll deal with this during my next trip back to the States. Owning a Mac in N. America is a great thing. Owning a Mac overseas is a crapshoot.

sigh
